Photographs
86 photographs. The first tabs are the family lines; the rest are the other kinds of picture. Every one of them also sits on the page it belongs to - the person, the farm, the burial ground, the story - and this is the way in for a reader who does not already know where to look.
A photograph here is one this project holds and may publish. The gravestone photographs on eGGSA are not copied: those stay on their site and are linked from the burial grounds. Where a picture is marked colourised, the colour was added later and is not part of the record: both versions are here, and the picture opens whichever one is showing.
Oosthuizen & Marincowitz (38)
Marincowitz and Oosthuizen are one group here because the two cross by DESCENT: Tokkie Marincowitz's mother and his father's mother were both Oosthuizens, and the two lines share ancestors back to Ockert Almero Oosthuizen and Adriana Cecilia Venter, the couple this whole record starts from. Tokkie's tie to the van der Merwes is a different kind - marriage, to Maria Magritha van Rensburg, widow of Frans Jacobus Wilhelmus van der Merwe - and so far as the descent recorded here goes there is no shared ancestor on that side.

Framed portrait sketch of a bearded man in a frock coat, found under decades of dust in an attic on Klueplaas (Middelwater), Klaarstroom, by Pieter Olckers, July 2026. Probably drawn for or from a photograph; dress dated on style to the 1870s-early 1880s. No name survives on the backing. One possibility is Ockert Almero Oosthuizen (PER-000005, 1836-1922, born and died on Middelwater). -
