Research notes

Widow, died aged 79 at Nuwestraat, Prince Albert; buried at "Gatsplaas". Her maiden name is LE GRANGE, confirmed [FS KLYS-H7N]: she married Cornelis Jacobus BotmaH (PER-001505) at PRINCE ALBERT on 11 APRIL 1887 and they had nine children. Not in the family tree - included because her death notice is the documentary evidence for the name Gatsplaas.

[GRAVE GRV-0026] HER STONE HAS BEEN FOUND AND IT DATES HER. 'TER GEDAGTENIS AAN ONS MOEDER, J.M.M. BOTMA, GEB. 31 MAART 1861, OORL. 14 MEI 1939', with Psalm 84:1 beside it. THE DEATH DATE MATCHES THIS ROW TO THE DAY, which is what identifies the grave as hers. THE BIRTH IS NOW DATED AND THE OLD VALUE WAS AN INFERENCE: birth_edtf was 1859/1860, derived from the death notice's 'died aged 79'. The stone gives 31 March 1861, so she was 78 years and six weeks, and the notice's age is a year out - which is ordinary in a death notice and not ordinary on a stone a family paid for. Adopted 1861-03-31; the disagreement is recorded rather than tidied away. AND HER BURIAL PLACE IS NOW LOCATED. The notice says buried at 'GATSPLAAS' and that was the documentary evidence for the name. The grave sits at -32.956136, 22.283269, inside Spreeufontein Portion 1 - the same ground Frans knows as Vredendal. The surname on the stone is BOTMA; this row and the death notice write BOTHMA. Both kept, per 5a note 6.
