GAO / Tokkie; Rondabel; Frans step-grandfather

29 Jul 2026 [SRC-074] first married FRANCES DUMINY JOUBERT (PER-000175) at Bellville, 25 Aug 1945 - the sister of Frans's grandmother Anna Tobia. Three children. After Frances died in 1965 he was the partner of Maria Magritha van RensburgH (PER-000013), Frans's maternal grandmother; FamilySearch records no marriage event for that union.

[9 Aug 2026, SRC-345] HE RAN THE PRINCE ALBERT LANDBOUGENOOTSKAP, and the commemorative book carries a signed piece by him with his photograph. In his own words: *"Prins Albert bied jaarliks een van die gewildste plattelandse tentoonstellings aan... Die Landbougenootskap is die enigste organisasie waar die inwoners van die dorp en distrik saamwerk om een gemeenskaplike doel te verwesenlik."* He closes by thanking the secretary MEV ANNIE SCHOEMAN, "my regterhand" MNR BERNARD STEGMANN, and MEV KATIE KLUE - a Klue, which is a surname this record already carries at Klueplaas and on Remhoogte.

[9 Aug 2026, SRC-344] AND HE BRED ANGORAS AT STUD. The 2009 obituary of Clive van Hasselt records that the SWARTBERG STUD NO. 242, which van Hasselt acquired in 1995, "had a wide genetic mix gained through selective group breeding with Tokkie Marincowitz, Fanie Schoeman, Frank Heroldt and Philip Schutte". So he was one of four breeders working a shared gene pool in the Prince Albert district, which is a different and more specific thing than farming.

THIS IS THE FIRST WORKING LIFE THIS ROW HAS HELD. It had his two marriages and the word Rondabel. He now has an office, an industry and a stud.

[9 Aug 2026] DO NOT READ THE 2009 JOURNAL'S BRANCH CHAIRMAN AS HIM. SRC-344 carries two Marincowitz men in one issue: he is named on p.84, in Clive van Hasselt's obituary, for stud work done years earlier, and the branch list on p.8 gives the Prins Albert chairman as a Marincowitz farming from Klaarstroom. THAT IS HIS SON, NOT HIM. He died on 4 July 2003, six years before the issue was printed. A reader meeting the surname twice in one magazine will join the two, and the son is living, so this record says no more about him than that he exists. [FAMILY] Do not confuse tokkie, with his son, chris marincowitz.

He had three children by Frances Duminy JoubertH, all living and all held back by the privacy rule. Between them the valuation roll puts Rondabel, Oude Muure, Kopjes Kraal and Klipgat in the family's hands, which is how the Marincowitz name is still on this ground eighty years after he was born on it.

[16 Aug 2026, FAMILY] A HOUSE AT HEROLDS BAY from about the middle 1950s, held by his family and still a family destination - PLC-000083. It is the only ground this project records for him outside the Koup, and it is why two coast photographs sit in a Karoo collection.

*** [22 Aug 2026] FRIKKIE WAS TOKKIE'S MOTHER'S FATHER - two steps. *** Frederik Simon 'Frikkie' Oosthuizen (PER-000006, 1856-1936) -> his daughter Anna Margaretha OosthuizenM (PER-000176, 1879-1973) -> her son Gert Annis Oosthuizen MarincowitzH 'Tokkie' (PER-000007, 1919-2003). That is why Tokkie carries OOSTHUIZEN as a given name: it is his mother's maiden surname, in the ordinary Cape way.

*** AND THE TIE IS DOUBLED, THROUGH TWO BROTHERS. *** Tokkie's FATHER, Gert Jan Oosthuizen MarincowitzL (PER-000023, 1875-1952), carries the same surname as a given name for the same reason: HIS mother was Catharina Maria OosthuizenL (PER-000022, b.1846), daughter of GERT ADRIAAN OOSTHUIZEN (PER-000127, 1820-1879). Frikkie's own father was JACOBUS DANIEL JOHANNES OOSTHUIZEN (PER-000004, 1823-1903). Gert Adriaan and Jacobus Daniel Johannes are BOTH sons of Ockert Almero OosthuizenL and Adriana Cecilia VenterM.

So BOTH of Tokkie's parents descend from Ockert Almero and Adriana Cecilia, by two different sons, and he is their great-great-grandson twice over. This is the pedigree collapse 9 warns about, in one person - and it is the reason the Marincowitz name arrives on this ground already carrying Oosthuizen inside it.

*** [SRC-622, 3 Sep 2026] ANNIS. FRANS: 'it does show that tokkie marincowitz name, annis, was in the family.' IT DOES, AND THE DESCENT IS ONE STEP. *** Beatrix ANNIS Oosthuizen (PER-000419), born 19 October 1883, is the younger sister of ANNA MARGARETHA OOSTHUIZEN (PER-000176, born 5 October 1879), who married Gert Jan Oosthuizen MarincowitzL in 1918 and was TOKKIE'S MOTHER. Gert ANNIS Oosthuizen Marincowitz was named with his own mother's sister's name. *** AND THE REGISTER SHOWS WHERE IT CAME FROM. *** Entry 98's three witnesses are all van der Westhuizens of the mother's family and they account for all four of the twins' names: Hendrik Jacobus for HENDRIK JACOBUS, Beatrix for BEATRICE HENRIETTE, and Annis for ANNA MARGARETHA VAN DER WESTHUISEN. Behind her stands ANNA MARGARETHA VAN JAARSVELD (PER-000558, b.1839), the twins' maternal grandmother - and 5b's vernoemingspatroon puts the FIRST DAUGHTER in the mother's mother's name, which is exactly what PER-000176 born 1879 is. The pattern and the paper agree without being made to. *** SO THE NAME RUNS: Anna Margaretha van Jaarsveld (1839) - Anna Margaretha OosthuizenM (1879) - Beatrix ANNIS Oosthuizen (1883) - Gert ANNIS Oosthuizen Marincowitz (1919) - and twice again since, twice more in the generations since, both of them living. A WOMAN'S NAME, CARRIED BY MEN FOR A CENTURY, and this 1884 opening is the earliest place this project holds it written in the short form. [TO VERIFY] that 'Annis' is a contraction of Anna and not a name in its own right - Annis is an old form of Agnes and exists independently. The witness list makes Anna far the likelier reading here, and it is a reading. 5b: the pattern generates the hypothesis and cannot confirm it.

What would settle it The purchase deed - it will name the parcel Vischat forms part of. Failing that, a topo sheet showing the werf, or CJJ simply saying which farm it was on.
Which Bloemendal did Tokkie own, and when did he hold it and Tabaklande? priority 2 · LEAD-0187
[FAMILY] Tokkie also owned Bloemendal and Tabaklande. Tabaklande is unambiguous - farm 164 portion 2, now PAR-000201. BLOEMENDAL IS NOT: this district has three farms of that name and a fourth thing called Bloemendal inside one of them. Bloemendal Annex No. 164 (PAR-000128), Bloemendaal No. 165 (PAR-000093), Bloemendal A No. 166 (PAR-000129), and the 2023 valuation roll also names farm 165 portion 2 'Bloemendal' at 15.4 ha. Which one is it, and what are the dates of both holdings?

Two accounts in one book put a man called Oosthuizen Marincowitz on two different farms in the same war. Which was his, and is 'Boy' a fourth Marincowitz this project does not hold?

What the record is missing

A boundary description for Botterkraal (Jansenskraal No. 104 Ptn 2) names F.S. MarincowitzM, a surveyor stating on the record that this person held the adjoining ground. We do hold Marincowitz tenure elsewhere, but none on this boundary and none at this date.

What would settle it The diagram's own date fixes the window. The quitrent or erfpacht register for that year names the holder of the adjoining place, and an estate inventory will name the farm outright.
