WESTHUISEN. 106. gedoopt 6 MEI 1884. PETRUS JACOBUS, Geb. 14 FEB 1883 [the last digit of the year is written over another and the correction is the clerk's]. Vader: PETRUS JACOBUS KLEU G.L. Moeder: CATHARINA MARG. BARNARD. Getuigen: JOHANNES HENDR. BARNARD / ELIZABETH GESINA BARNARD. *** ENTRY 98 IS A TWIN BAPTISM WRITTEN AS ONE ENTRY, AND THIS PROJECT ALREADY HELD BOTH CHILDREN WITHOUT KNOWING THE REGISTER SAID SO. *** PER-000059 Hendrik Jacobus Oosthuizen and PER-000419 Beatrix Annis Oosthuizen both carry 19 October 1883, from SRC-068 and from the tree, and here they are on one line with one birth date and one entry number, six months old. The name string is two children's names run together, one boy and one girl, and the THREE WITNESSES ACCOUNT FOR ALL FOUR NAMES: Hendrik Jacobus for Hendrik Jacobus van der Westhuizen, Beatrix for Beatrice Henriette, Annis for Anna Margaretha. Every witness is of the MOTHER'S family, which is 5's third rule working in front of us: the column tracks kin. [TO VERIFY] whether the clerk meant one child of four names and this project's two rows are the error - but two independent sources give two children on that day, and one of them, Hendrik Jacobus, died on 8 December 1884 and was buried at Zwartskraal. *** ENTRY 106 CORRECTS FAMILYSEARCH ON A NAME, AND THE CORRECTION MATTERS BEYOND ONE ROW. *** FamilySearch profile GVRR-V2B reads PETRUS JOHANNES KLEU, born 14 February 1883, christened 6 May 1884 at Prince Albert. Same day, same baptism, same congregation: it is this entry. The register says PETRUS JACOBUS. That is not a spelling variant, so 5a-i does not apply and the register wins on the fact. AND THE LIKELY MECHANISM IS ON THE SAME PAGE: entry 107, immediately below, is PETRUS JOHANNES, born 8 Feb 1884, son of Petrus Johannes Jansen van Vuren. An indexer working down the column took 107's name onto 106's date. The child is named PETRUS JACOBUS for his own father, which is the third son's position in the vernoemingspatroon and is where our sibship puts him, after Sebastian Johannes Barnard 1879 and Adam Jakobus 1881. The pattern and the paper agree. 'G.L.' after the father's name is the register's own abbreviation and is not expanded here. [TO VERIFY] No film, DGS or ark number came with the image; the citation is the opening and not yet an archive reference. *** [3 Sep 2026, on a close crop of entry 106] THE READING IS CONFIRMED AT FULL SIZE. *** Petrus Jacobus; Geb: 14 Feb 1883 with the final digit of the year written over another, which reads as the clerk correcting 1884 to 1883 - the habit of writing the current year in a register opened in 1884. Vader: Petrus Jacobus Kleu G.L. Moeder: Catharina Marg. Barnard. Getuigen: Johannes Hendr. Barnard, Elizabeth Gesina Barnard. Nothing in the crop is ambiguous and no word here is a guess. *** THE TWO WITNESSES GET NO PERSON ROWS, AND THAT IS THE RULE RATHER THAN AN OVERSIGHT. *** 6 collects witnesses into person rows from occasions UP TO 1859 and after that records only witnesses who are already people here. This is 1884 and neither Barnard is. They are on the paper and in this note, and that is where they stay until something else reaches them. *** AND FRANS'S OWN CAVEAT ON ENTRY 98, WHICH BELONGS IN THE RECORD: 'frikkie oosthuizen on this page was a coincidence.' *** The opening was opened to read the Kleu baptism. The Oosthuizen twins two weeks earlier on the facing leaf were not looked for and the two entries are not connected to each other. What they share is only the congregation: both families were at the Prince Albert font in the autumn of 1884. Nobody reading this row later should take the proximity for a tie between the families. *** [SRC-622, 3 Sep 2026] ANNIS. FRANS: 'it does show that tokkie marincowitz name, annis, was in the family.' IT DOES, AND THE DESCENT IS ONE STEP. *** Beatrix ANNIS Oosthuizen (PER-000419), born 19 October 1883, is the younger sister of ANNA MARGARETHA OOSTHUIZEN (PER-000176, born 5 October 1879), who married Gert Jan Oosthuizen Marincowitz in 1918 and was TOKKIE'S MOTHER. Gert ANNIS Oosthuizen Marincowitz was named with his own mother's sister's name. *** AND THE REGISTER SHOWS WHERE IT CAME FROM. *** Entry 98's three witnesses are all van der Westhuizens of the mother's family and they account for all four of the twins' names: Hendrik Jacobus for HENDRIK JACOBUS, Beatrix for BEATRICE HENRIETTE, and Annis for ANNA MARGARETHA VAN DER WESTHUISEN. Behind her stands ANNA MARGARETHA VAN JAARSVELD (PER-000558, b.1839), the twins' maternal grandmother - and 5b's vernoemingspatroon puts the FIRST DAUGHTER in the mother's mother's name, which is exactly what PER-000176 born 1879 is. The pattern and the paper agree without being made to. *** SO THE NAME RUNS: Anna Margaretha van Jaarsveld (1839) - Anna Margaretha Oosthuizen (1879) - Beatrix ANNIS Oosthuizen (1883) - Gert ANNIS Oosthuizen Marincowitz (1919) - and twice again since, twice more in the generations since, both of them living. A WOMAN'S NAME, CARRIED BY MEN FOR A CENTURY, and this 1884 opening is the earliest place this project holds it written in the short form. [TO VERIFY] that 'Annis' is a contraction of Anna and not a name in its own right - Annis is an old form of Agnes and exists independently. The witness list makes Anna far the likelier reading here, and it is a reading. 5b: the pattern generates the hypothesis and cannot confirm it.
