HE IS THE MAN IN MED-000039, seated, in a frock coat and a high stock. The floruit of the 1860s is read off the photograph - his wife's cap and his own collar and cravat - and is an estimate stated as one, not a date from a record.

HOW HE CONNECTS TO THIS FAMILY IS NOT ESTABLISHED HERE. 1828] - a man of the right generation in the right family. That is a hypothesis and 9 forbids settling it on a surname and a plausible age. NO PARENTAGE ROW IS WRITTEN. LEAD-0199.

[15 Aug 2026] THE BACK OF THE CARD SPELLS HIM ISAK, in ink: "Isak Malherbe & Katriena Malherbe (geb. Pepler)" - see MED-000046. This row displays Izak, from Frans's filename. Both are kept; the FamilySearch form under 97LH-84V has not been checked and is what 5a-i would settle the display on.

[15 Aug 2026, TREE] IDENTIFIED, AND THE LINK IS THE POINT. The private tree holds exactly ONE Izak Malherbe married to a Pepler - Izak Abraham MalherbeH (1792-1873) and Elizabeth Catharina Louisa PeplerH (1799-1877), married about 1819 - and their fourth son is HENDRIK LODEWYK MALHERBE, 30 March 1828 to 3 January 1901, who is PER-000755 in this project, father of Johanna Fredricka MalherbeM and therefore Frans's great-great-great-grandfather.

THREE INDEPENDENT THINGS AGREE and none of them is a name on its own, which 9 forbids: the ink on the back of the photograph gives the pair "Isak Malherbe & Katriena Malherbe (geb. Pepler)"; the tree gives that pair once; and the pencil line on the same back - "Ouma [illegible] se Ouma & Oupa" - gives a GENERATION COUNT of two above a woman called Ouma, which is exactly where Johanna Fredricka MalherbeM stands from these two.

THE INK SPELLS HIM ISAK and the tree IZAK; both are kept and neither corrected away. He was about eighty when he died, so the photograph - read off the clothes as the 1860s - now has a HARD TERMINUS: he cannot have sat for it after 1873.

[15 Aug 2026] THE FAMILYSEARCH IDS ARE CONFIRMED AND THE [TO VERIFY] IS CLOSED. Frans pointed at his direct-ancestor family tree export. It carries FamilySearch ids in _FID, and there they are: 97LH-84V against Izak Abraham MalherbeH, 21 July 1792 to 1873, and 2CBY-7BD against Elizabeth Catharina Louisa PeplerH, 14 October 1799 to 2 January 1877 - the same two ids Frans wrote into the photograph's filename, on the same two people, in a file built independently of it. Both appear again in the fuller export of 7,727 people. And the file is the DIRECT-ANCESTOR export, so it also settles that they are direct ancestors rather than a collateral pair who happened to fit.

THE NAMING PATTERN AGREES, INDEPENDENTLY. Their ten children run first daughter Elizabeth Catharina Louisa (the mother's mother), second daughter Anna Margaretha (the father's mother), first son Petrus Jacobus (the father's father), SECOND SON HENDRIK LODEWYK (the mother's father, Hendrik Lodewijk PeplerM), third son Isaak Abraham (the father himself). Five slots, five hits. The second-son slot is the one that matters here: it is our PER-000755, and the pattern says he is this couple's son for a reason that has nothing to do with the tree's own parent link.
