Not an event so much as a shape the page makes, and it is the kind of thing this project exists to find. On 19 August 1821 the Beaufort West register carries two baptisms back to back: ENTRY 381 - Petrus Jacobus Venter and CORNELIA PETRONELLA OOSTHUIJZEN's son. ENTRY 382 - CORNELIS ANDRIES OOSTHUIJZ

Afrikaans naming repeats hard, and the Cape Dutch naming pattern reuses a name on purpose, a child who died young has the name given again to a later sibling. These are different people. Never match on a name alone.

Research notes
Middelwater anchor ~1821
29 Jul 2026 [SRC-073 + tree]: DIRECT ANCESTOR - Frans's 4x-great-grandfather on a second line into the same family. Married Johanna Machteld Petronella StrydomH (PER-000138) at Graaff-Reinet 11 Apr 1813. Father of Susanna Catharina (PER-000135), who married the son of PER-000001 - PEDIGREE COLLAPSE: Frans descends from both couples. Absorbed PER-000137, which I created today in error before checking this row.
29 Jul 2026 FamilySearch GCZ4-2WS: he is a SON of Ockert Oosthuijzen (1755) and so a BROTHER of the root ancestor PER-000001. That is what makes the 1836 marriage first-cousin: his daughter Susanna Catharina married his brother's son Johannes Adriaan. NOT to be confused with his nephew and namesake Cornelis Andries (PER-000128, 1828-1871), who also died on Middelwater.

Open questions
-
Where is Kriedouw, and were the Oosthuizens there in July 1821?
priority 1 · LEAD-0052
The Beaufort West register puts the direct-ancestor couple's son born 'aan KRIEDOUW' on 26 July 1821. Most entries on the page say the same. Where is it, and how does it sit against the belief that the family established at Middelwater about 1821?
What would settle it A gazetteer or a map fixing Kriedouw, or an opgaafrol entry putting the couple on a named farm in 1820-22.
