SUPPLIED BY FRANS THE ENTRY, as read: "Den 5 November aan onder Traca gedoopt. 't kind ANNA MAGDALENA geb. den 1 Augustus 18[18]. ouders JACOBUS JOH:S OOSTHUIZEN & ANNA MAGDALENA STRYDOM. getuigen: Martinus van Vooren & Adriana [Z/K]oek; CORNELIS AND[RIES] OOSTHUIZEN & Anna Magd[alena] Petronella Strydom." The page is headed "Door den Eerwaarde Heer A. Faure gedoopt". | THE YEAR DIGITS ARE HARD ON THIS SCAN and the reading rests on three things rather than on the ink: every surrounding entry on both pages carries the same year; the mother ANNA MAGDALENA STRYDOM DIED 30 JULY 1846 (SRC-453), which rules out the 1850s; and this model already holds a daughter ANNA MAGDALENA OOSTHUIZEN, PER-000213, born 14 August 1818 to this couple. Abraham Faure served Graaff-Reinet from 1818. Recorded as 1818. The register gives the birth as 1 AUGUST where the model carried 14 August - the discrepancy is kept, not resolved. [TO VERIFY] | WHY THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT OF THE DAY: it places JACOBUS JOHANNES OOSTHUIZEN AND HIS WIFE AT ONDER TRAKA IN 1818 - fifteen years before the Vrolykheid survey, and in THE VERY FIELD CORNETCY THE VROLYKHEID DIAGRAM NAMES ("Field Cornetcy of Traka", DOC-0027, PLC-000022). His brother CORNELIS ANDRIES OOSTHUIZEN (PER-000015), whom this model already anchors on MIDDELWATER from about 1821, stands as witness at the same font. | It is a baptism at a visiting minister's circuit stop, so it proves the family was AT onder Traka, not which farm they held. See LEAD-0213.
