The citation as it was given

[17 Sep 2026] The standard compiled genealogy of the old Cape families, public domain. [FAMILY] Authoritative, but it still does contain errors. FS linked to record scans and MOOC is more primary. So it is a finding aid and ranks below register scans, opgaafrolle and MOOC8; a disagreement is recorded, not resolved in its favour. It gives baptism dates, and 'burger te X' is enrolment, not residence. FIRST USE, van TONDEREN (Deel 3, family 972, pp. 439-440) and van WIJK (pp. 624-630): Cornelis the son, baptised 1737, married 8 Feb 1761 Gerbrecht Bezuidenhout, daughter Gerbrecht baptised 30 Jan 1763, which corroborates SRC-654; Roelof, baptised 26 Apr 1761, burger of Graaff-Reinet, married 29 Jun 1788 Maria Magdalena van den Berg, which identifies SRC-655's Roelof as Susanna Catharina's brother; Susanna Catharina baptised 20 Feb 1763, married Ockert Oosthuijzen; a Cornelis married 8 Sep 1782 Petronella Oosthuijzen. It gives Cornelis the father (baptised 1715) a third marriage, 24 Nov 1765 to Anna Cornelia Botha, while its van Wijk entry has Susanna van Wijk remarried to a Cornelis Bezuidenhout. The 1770 roll still pairs Cornelis d'oude with Susanna van Wijk, so the 1765 marriage very likely belongs to the widowed son [TO VERIFY]. Louis van Wyk de jonge is baptised 9 May 1753 here, against 1755 in the tree [TO VERIFY; OCR digits are unreliable, check the page]. | [17 Sep 2026] CHECKED: the Paarl register (SRC-657) baptises Louis van Wyk de jonge in May 1755. De Villiers' '9 Mei 1753' has the year wrong, and the page supports 4 May rather than 9. This is the book's first proven error in this project. | [17 Sep 2026] SECOND CONFLATION: it marries Lavina Catharina Steenkamp both to Louis van Wyk de jonge (1800) and to his son Louis Johannes (1803), and runs the children of the two households into one list. Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
