[17 Sep 2026] Found looking for an estate of Cornelis van Tonder; NO ESTATE OF A CORNELIS VAN TONDER(EN) IS IN THE PUBLISHED MOOC8 (volumes 61-70 and 76+ are untranscribed). This is his wife's: 'Gerbregt Besuijdenhout ten voordeele van haar nagelatene man den landbouwer Cornelis van Tonderen ter eenree, mitsg:rs hunne ... eenig kind, in naame Gerbregt van Tonderen'; inventoried by the landbouwers Jacobus Scheepers and Wijnand Besuijdenhout. ASSETS: 'Een opstal gen:t DE UIJTVLUGT, geleegen AGTER DE COGMANS CLOOF OVER DE ZEE KOERIVIER', Rd 25; 21 cattle, 295 sheep, 2 horses, a saddle, a snaphaan, household goods, a wagon without body, a plough. DEBTS: the wagon-maker Rd 30, and 'aan d'E: Comp:e over agterstallige recognitie penn:e op voorsz: veeplaats' Rd 24 - so De Uijtvlugt was a LOAN PLACE (veeplaats) paying recognitie. Nett Rd 268:2. Signed Cornelis van Tonder; present as nearest friends Jacobus Scheepers (his mark) and Claes Grobler. WHICH CORNELIS [TO VERIFY]: the Swellendam rolls have CORNELIS VAN TONDEREN D'OUDE x Susanna van Wijk in 1751, 1760 and 1770, and CORNELIS D'JONGE single in 1760 and married to Anna Cornelia Botha by 1770 (SRC-488 to SRC-490). A wife Gerbregt Besuijdenhout dying in 1762/63 with one child fits CORNELIS DE JONGE between those rolls, so this is very likely Susanna Catharina van Tonder's brother Cornelis (b. c.1737, d. 1794 per the tree), not her father. 'Agter de Cogmans Cloof' is the same phrase the blog quotes for Louis van Wyk's Vergelegen in the Cango in 1760 (SRC-651): it names the whole Little Karoo beyond Cogmanskloof. WHICH UITVLUGT is open: the name recurs (Calitzdorp No. 80; Uniondale Nos. 102, 268, 269; Oudtshoorn De Uitvlugt No. 21 beside d'Oude Muragie on the 1879 plan; 'Kammanassie en Uitvlugt' in the 1823 Olifants ward), and no Zeekoe river has been placed in that country yet. LEAD-0353. | [17 Sep 2026] De Villiers (SRC-656, Deel 3 p. 439) has Cornelis, baptised 1737, burger of Swellendam, married 8 Feb 1761 Gerbrecht Bezuidenhout, daughter Gerbrecht baptised 30 Jan 1763. That corroborates Cornelis DE JONGE as the widower here. | [17 Sep 2026] Appel (SRC-658) has a Jacobus Scheepers in the Kango in 1771-1773, whose children a bosschieter taught; the same name witnesses this 1763 estate. Names only.
