First cousin of Susanna Catharina van TonderM (PER-000119) [TREE]. ON THE GROUND (SRC-651 [TO VERIFY]): took the loan place OUDE MURASIE 'aan 't end van de Cango' in 1781 and left it in 1786, when it passed to S. Bekker - the d'Oude Muragie where Landdrost Faure's party signed four days before inventorying de Modder Fonteyn in April 1809 (SRC-549); appointed VELDWAGMEESTER AAN DE OLIFANTSRIVIER on 27 October 1786; asked for his attestation to go to Graaff-Reinet in October 1792. His first wife's estate, MOOC8/53.41a (SRC-653), was listed at the Sneeuwberg on 2 October 1800 for 'Louis van WykM d'oude' and seven children (confirmed below).

FamilySearch's children of L8RR-TXJ x Martha Bekker agree name for name and year for year (Louis Johannes b. 1784, Martha Jacoba b. 1792, Adriaan David b. 1794, Andries Petrus b. 1798; the first Martha Jacoba 1790-1792 died before). So in 1800 Louis van WykM DE JONGE is 'd'oude', a widower at the Sneeuwberg who remarried in Cape Town that November. The first wife's FS death year 1798 sits before the 1800 inventory, which is normal for a delayed filing.

g. Adriaan van WykM en Sara FourieM', his paternal grandparents. The year 1755 is confirmed against De Villiers' 1753. The day reads 4 (possibly 1), not the 9 that FamilySearch and the tree carry; birth_edtf stays ../1755-05-09 until the day is settled [TO VERIFY].

[17 Sep 2026] FS FAMILY (screenshots, second look) AGAINST DE VILLIERS (SRC-656, Deel 3 pp. 638-639). They agree on the first marriage and its eight children, and De Villiers adds baptism dates: Stephanus Johannes 14 Dec 1777, Helena Dorothea 26 Mar 1780, Hester 30 Mar 1782, Louis Johannes 2 Oct 1784, Martha Jacoba 31 Jan 1790 and 11 Oct 1792, Adriaan David 24 Aug 1794, Andries Petrus 22 Jul 1798. THEY DISAGREE ON THE SECOND MARRIAGE. De Villiers marries Lavina Catharina Steenkamp, 'weduwe van Barend Johannes Vorster', to the father on 9 Nov 1800 AND to the son Louis Johannes (b. 1784) on 29 May 1803. It then numbers the 1801-1810 children on straight after the first family, including a second Stephanus Johannes (1804), a Casper Jan Hendrik (1806), a Louis (1808) and a Maria Magdalena (1810), and gives Hilletje Maria Margaretha as '1829', probably an OCR slip for 1809. FamilySearch gives the father five children by Steenkamp, among them Susanna Magdalena Catharina (1811) and Theunis Jacobus (1815), which De Villiers lacks. The book appears to merge two households, father and son, which is the same kind of namesake conflation it made with the van Tonders. Which children belong to which Louis is open; the baptism entries of 1801-1815 would settle it [TO VERIFY].

[17 Sep 2026] HIS SECOND WIFE'S FIRST HUSBAND was Barend Johannes Vorster (b. 1748), whose will of 14 Sep 1798 left her the farm de Lange Kloof with the fountain Spitskop behind the Sneeuberg (MOOC8/53.42c, SRC-659). De Villiers has TWO Lavina Catharina Steenkamps: the widow, baptised 26 Aug 1770, and another baptised 15 Aug 1784 who married a Louis Johannes van Wijk. That would explain the book's two Steenkamp marriages here: father and son may each have married a Lavina Catharina Steenkamp [TO VERIFY].
