[17 Sep 2026] Looked up; a friend of his carries the name, and nothing about any living person is recorded here. The will: 'Anno 1798 den 14 September hebbe ik Barend Johannes Vorster voorgenome om een onderhands testaments te late schryve wyl ik zo dikwyls toevallens krygt die myn zodanig krenkt zo dat ik dikwils denkt het is de laatste nagt of dag'. He leaves 'aan myn huysvrouw Livina Catharina Vorster geboore Steenkam' the place 'genaamt de Lange Kloof met een bygetrokke vontyn genaamt Spitskop gelege agter Sneeberg' with a wagon and a span of oxen, for 1,600 rixdollars. Living children: Barend Johannes (x Johanna Christina Booyse), Isaac David (x Hendrina Fransina Kruger), Willem Jacobus (x Johanna Maria Kruger), Alewyn Petrus, Dorothea Maria (x Johannes Philippus Kruger), Roelof, Anna Sophya, Livina Catharina Magdalena, Hester Aletta, Casper Jan Henderik, Schalk Willemse. Witnesses include Willem van Heerden and Cornelis van Nukerk; the eldest heir, the son-in-law Kruger, and Willem Jacobus and Isaak David sign their consent. DE VILLIERS (SRC-656, Deel 3, family 1030 VORSTER): Barend Johannes, baptised 14 April 1748, son of Barend Vorster and Dorothea Maria Smit and grandson of Jan Vorster (arrived 1717) and Elisabeth Labbe; married (1) 25 Feb 1770 Cecilia van Heerden (PER-001813, d. 1789), (2) 23 May 1790 Levina Catharina Steenkamp (baptised 26 Aug 1770). The will's children match the book's, which lists seventeen across both marriages. WHY IT IS HERE: his widow married Louis van Wyk de jonge (PER-002073, L8RR-TXJ) on 9 November 1800, so the Sneeuberg farm is the household the van Wyks joined; he died between 14 Sep 1798 and Nov 1800. De Villiers' Steenkamp entry says she remarried 'Louis Johannes van Wijk', and lists a SECOND Lavina Catharina Steenkamp, baptised 15 Aug 1784, married to a Louis Johannes van Wijk - two women of one name, which may explain its double marriage in the van Wijk family [TO VERIFY]. A thread outward from the Cango kin, not Koup ground.
