Three Oosthuijzen siblings on one register page
19 August 1821 · family · Prince Albert
Not an event so much as a shape the page makes, and it is the kind of thing this project exists to find. On 19 August 1821 the Beaufort West register carries two baptisms back to back: ENTRY 381 - Petrus Jacobus Venter and CORNELIA PETRONELLA OOSTHUIJZEN's son. ENTRY 382 - CORNELIS ANDRIES OOSTHUIJZEN and Johanna Magdalena Petronella Strijdom's son. Cornelia and Cornelis are SISTER AND BROTHER, both children of PER-000118 and PER-000119. So is GERRIT ADRIAAN OOSTHUIJZEN, who stands as a witness at 382. And the couple from 381 - Venter and his Oosthuijzen wife - are themselves witnesses at 382. THREE SIBLINGS AND TWO HOUSEHOLDS, IN ONE AFTERNOON, IN ONE HOUSE. Nobody wrote that down as a fact; it is only visible by reading the witness lists across two entries.

Everyone the record names at this occasion. Who stood together is the clearest surviving evidence of which families were close to which, if you know of others who were here, this is the page they belong on.

The same day
Other events this model records on the same date. Sometimes coincidence, sometimes, as with the five farms granted on 15 April 1841, one act of administration seen from several farms at once.
