29 Jul 2026 [SRC-073]: identified as the "Jan Adriaan OosthuizenL" who took RONDABEL on perpetual quitrent with S.J. Theron on 21 Jan 1868 (see PER-000046). Theron married his sister Dina Magdalena (PER-000132) in 1851, so the two co-grantees were brothers-in-law. Name, district, period and relationship all fit. HIGH CONFIDENCE, not yet proved from the deed itself [TO VERIFY]. He married his first cousin Susanna Catharina OosthuizenL (PER-000135) at Beaufort West, 7 Feb 1836.

29 Jul 2026 FamilySearch LZ1Q-GDF: marriage to Susanna Catharina given as 17 January 1836 at Beaufort West; Pottas and the family-tree both say 7 February 1836. One of the two is wrong [TO VERIFY]. FS also shows a SECOND marriage, to Anna Petronella Janse van RensburgH (PER-000161) at George, 9 Feb 1858, with two daughters.

29 Jul 2026 [SRC-082] BAPTISM REGISTER READ. Born 20 Nov 1816, baptised 16 June 1817. The register, the index, the 1859 death notice and FamilySearch all write JAN ADRIAAN; the family-tree writes Johannes Adriaan. I FIRST CALLED THAT A CORRECTION AND IT IS NOT: JAN IS THE EVERYDAY FORM OF JOHANNES, and both are the same name. In this case Jan is very likely what was actually meant, because by the vernoemingspatroon the SECOND SON is named for the MATERNAL GRANDFATHER - and hers was JAN Louis Venter (PER-000120), who then stood witness at this child's own son's baptism in 1837. Recorded as doopnaam Jan Adriaan, noemnaam Jan, with Johannes Adriaan kept as the family-tree's expansion. Four witnesses in two couples: his uncle GERRIT ADRIAAN OOSTHUIJZEN with Petronella SchoonmanM, and ADRIAAN VAN DEVENTER with Maria Sophia VenterM - one pair from each side, which is the conventional pattern.

Kept PER-000003 ('Johannes Adriaan OosthuizenH'); merged PER-000454 ('Jan Adriaan Oosthuijzen'). Exposed by the _FID backfill of 31 Jul 2026, which gave nearly every person an id to collide on; before that these had no shared key. Check LZ1Q-GDF on FamilySearch before assuming the upstream tree needs anything - it is usually the LOCAL tree that is stale (LEAD-0021). HE DIED AT HIS RESIDENCE AT GEORGE TOWN on 11 August 1882, aged 65 - which matches a birth of 20 Nov 1816 exactly. Condition in life: LANDED PROPRIETOR. Property: landed and movable. The notice was signed by his eldest son, O. A. Oosthuizen (PER-000005).

THE PARENTS ARE NAMED ON IT - 'Ockert Almero Oosthuijsen en Adriana C. Venter' - so his parentage no longer rests on the compiled tree.

THE CLERK FIRST WROTE 'JAN ABRAHAM' AND STRUCK IT THROUGH FOR ADRIAAN. Kept as written, not tidied.

*** AND THE BIRTH-PLACE IS GIVEN AS 'DISTRICT PRINCE ALBERT', WHICH IS NOT WHERE THIS MODEL HAS HIM BORN. *** He was baptised at GRAAFF-REINET in June 1817 and this project has the family reaching Beaufort West only in 1821 and the Koup from 1823. Prince Albert district did not exist in 1816 - it was created in 1845 - so this is an 1882 label for ground, not an 1816 place name. IF THE GROUND IS RIGHT, THE HOUSEHOLD WAS ON THE KOUP SIDE SEVEN YEARS EARLIER THAN THE MODEL SAYS and the Graaff-Reinet baptism is a journey to church, exactly as the six 1790s baptisms turned out to be for his grandfather. *** [20 Aug 2026, SRC-535] THE CHILDREN AUDIT: THE NOTICE NAMES ELEVEN AND THIS MODEL CARRIES SIXTEEN ROWS. *** The eleven all match a row: Ockert Almero PER-000005, Johanna Petronella PER-000151, Jan Adriaan PER-000153, Cornelis Andries, Petrus Marthinus Lodewicus PER-000154, Adriana Cecilia PER-000155, Susanna Catharina PER-000156, Anna Magdalena, Roelof Daniel Jacobus; and as MINORS Anna Petronella PER-000162 and Johanna Elizabeth PER-000161, the two by the second wife, which fits the 1858 marriage.

FIVE ROWS ARE NOT ACCOUNTED FOR, AND THREE OF THEM LOOK LIKE DUPLICATES: CORNELIS ANDRIES is PER-000152 and PER-000365 WITH THE SAME BIRTH DATE, 29 Nov 1840 - as near certain a duplicate as this project sees. ANNA MAGDALENA is PER-000157 (b.1852) and PER-000363 (b.1839~); ROELOF DANIEL JACOBUS is PER-000158 (b.1855) and PER-000368 (b.1840). Those two pairs are thirteen and fifteen years apart, so they are EITHER duplicates OR the vernoemingspatroon reusing a dead child's name - and the notice cannot tell us, because it names each once.

THE OTHER TWO ARE NOT NAMED AT ALL: MARTHA MAGDALENA PER-000159 (b.1856) and ADRIANA PER-000444 (no dates).

AND A CAUTION AGAINST READING THE LIST AS 'SURVIVING CHILDREN': Jan Adriaan the younger (PER-000153) is recorded here as dying in 1878, four years before the notice, and he is named on it. So either the notice lists all children regardless, or that death year is wrong. NOTHING SHOULD BE MERGED ON THIS DOCUMENT ALONE. LEAD-0259 is where the sibship duplicates are worked.

[24 Aug 2026] His mother's death notice (SRC-580) writes JAN ADRIAAN - the third original document to do so.

[25 Aug 2026] His grandson's diary (SRC-586) holds the one domestic picture of him this record has: in the 1865 drought, LIVING ON MIDDELWATER, he watered the orange grove before the house with wagon and vats so the trees would not die - three years before he took Rondabel. RES-000039.
