[31 Jul 2026 SRC-092] THE 1809 INVENTORY OVERTURNS MY MERGE CHOICE OF THIS MORNING. MOOC8/28.63, taken 23 April 1809, lists him as heir 7, AGED 12 - which puts his birth between 24 Apr 1796 and 23 Apr 1797. In the merge with PER-000351 I kept '1795' and discarded '1796-03-27'; the discarded value is far closer to the register than the one I kept. Birth set to 1796~ - the inventory age is evidence but not a birth date, and 27 March 1796 would make him 13 by a month, so neither reading is clean. This is the SECOND merge disagreement from this morning that a document has now settled, and the first that has gone AGAINST the value I kept. The rule of keeping the survivor's value is a tiebreaker, not evidence, and this is what it costs.

[17 Aug 2026] PROPOSED as the PETRUS OOSTHUIZEN of De Claar Stroom whom Klaarstroom was named for - PER-000505, LEAD-0215. Not merged: neither row carries a date that the other can be tested against, and the identification rests on the cameo's "and his brother, Ockert". He is otherwise the emptiest of the eighteen siblings in this model - no land, no residence, no witness row, and a marriage in the tree to Catharina Elisabeth SchoemanH who died the day their only recorded child was born.

[17 Aug 2026] MERGED PER-000505 into this row. The Petrus Oosthuizen of De Claar Stroom, whom Klaarstroom was named for, is Pieter Marthinus OosthuijzenH (b.1796/97), seventh of the eleven heirs of the 1809 estate and one of the seven minors placed with his eldest brother. Merged Piet, Pieter and Petrus are one name, and the cameo's one hard fact is that Petrus acted with 'his brother, Ockert' - which Pieter Marthinus had. LEAD-0029 stays open on his dates, which neither row supplies. Moved across: flourished_edtf=1858/1860. *** [20 Aug 2026, SRC-518] HIS BAPTISM IS FOUND, AT ROODEZAND. *** Tulbagh register G4/1/1, page 333, entry 30: born 9 JUNE 1795, baptised 27 March 1796, parents Okkert Oosthuijsen and Susanna Catrina van Tonder, witnesses Pieter Cronje, his sister Susanna Elisabeth, Johannes Jacobus van Tonder and Susanna Jacoba van Wijk. This row carried '1796~', which was the baptism year taken for a birth year - the same artefact as PER-000148 and PER-000352 (LEAD-0259). The 1809 inventory's 'oud 12 jaren' implied about 1797 and was a year or two out, as estate ages usually are.

*** [20 Aug 2026, SRC-523] HIS BIRTH DATE IS CONFIRMED BY A TAX ROLL 700 km AWAY. *** SRC-518 gives him born 9 JUNE 1795 at Roodezand. He is NOT a householder on the 1811 George roll (SRC-522) and IS one on the 1813 roll - which is exactly what a man who turned sixteen in June 1811 does. Two independent records, a Boland baptism register and a George opgaafrol, agreeing on a date neither was consulted for.

[2026-09-23, SRC-678] NOT THE PIETER MARTINES OF MOOC8/36.28. That sheet lists the goods of 'de overleedene Pieter Martines Oosthuijsen' on 1 February 1820, a young unmarried man's kit, and the name and age fit this man; but this row's own floruit of 1858/1860 rests on the rolls, so he was alive in 1858 and the 1820 deceased is another Pieter Marthinus, most likely of Gerhardus's line. The sheet is transcribed as DOC-0374 / INV-0039 with no person attached.

Are these three men Ockert Almero (PER-000001), Jacobus Johannes (PER-000208) and Pieter Marthinus (PER-000146), three of the eighteen children of Ockert Jacobus OosthuizenL (PER-000118)?

Ockert (1755) x Susanna Catharina van TonderM had eighteen children. One of them, Ockert Almero (1786), is the root of everything this project holds. What happened to the other seventeen - who stayed in the western Cape, who went to Hanover and the northern frontier, who joined the emigration of 1838?

SRC-451, the 1867 death notice, says Jacobus Johannes OosthuizenL was born in the DIVISION OF SWELLENDAM about 19 November 1784. The cadastre holds a dense MODDERFONTEIN cluster in RIVERSDALE - farms 417, 569, 570, 579, 670, 685 and 367, all within two kilometres of -34.26, 21.40 - and Riversdale was carved out of Swellendam in 1838. Is that the family's earlier ground, and is it the same name travelling with them?

De Claar Stroom (Klaarstroom Nr. 178) was worked as far as 1860, with Pieter Marthinus OosthuijzenH the last owner on record. 166 years follow with nothing. Who held it after that, and is it still one farm?

What would settle it The current title deed traced backwards, each transfer names the one before it, or the Surveyor-General's subdivision diagrams, which are what usually explain a farm going quiet.
