THE SINGLE MOST INFORMATIVE DOCUMENT IN THE PROJECT SO FAR. A full room-by-room inventory of the household of PER-000118 at his death, plus debts, credits and every heir with their age. It names the farm - DE MODDER FONTEYN, GELEGEN AAN D'OLIFANTS RIVIER - which documents a farm and a river and names no town. It shows the family were WAGONMAKERS AND SMITHS as well as stock farmers. And it records the eldest son, aged 25, taking in seven minor siblings and promising to educate them. | [18 Aug 2026, CONSISTENCY RUN] The Citrusdal identification is no longer carried as fact. The 1809 estate was taken before A.A. FAURE, LANDDROST OF SWELLENDAM (SRC-465), whose authority was territorial and did not reach Tulbagh or Clanwilliam, where Citrusdal lay. See LEAD-0220. | *** [20 Aug 2026] THE RIVER IS THE SOUTHERN OLIFANTS. *** SRC-514, a Swellendam baptism of a child of this household, records them 'woonende aan Oliphants Rivier' and baptising at Swellendam - which the Boland Olifants at Citrusdal cannot explain and the Little Karoo Olifants explains exactly. Read with A.A. Faure's Swellendam jurisdiction over this very inventory, the district and the river now agree. The FARM is still unlocated: no Modderfontein survives in the cadastre along that river (SRC-510). | [20 Aug 2026] THE FOSTER CLAUSE IS EVIDENCE ABOUT GEOGRAPHY, NOT ONLY ABOUT CHARACTER. Because heirs 5 to 11 are bracketed as living with their eldest brother, the family after April 1809 is a single household that can be followed - and the 1816 George roll finds it, with three of the seven beside it as new householders in one veldcornetcy (SRC-459). LEAD-0260. | *** [23 Aug 2026] THE SIGNATORIES PLACE THE FARM BY ITINERARY, WHICH IS A HARDER ARGUMENT THAN THE RIVER'S NAME. *** SRC-549. The clerk, the first gerechtsbode and Faure signed an identical closing formula at d'OUDE MURAGIE OP 'T EYNDE VAN DE CANGO on 19 APRIL 1809 (MOOC8/28.25) and here on 23 APRIL 1809 - four days. Cango to the southern Olifants at De Rust is about 32 km, one wagon day; Cango to Citrusdal is about 312 km straight line, some eleven wagon-days one way across two other magistracies. The Citrusdal reading is not tenable on this evidence. The DISTRICT is settled as far as this series can settle it; the FARM's position on the ground is not.
