Transcribed as read: 90) d 3 Desemb: 't k: LODEWIJK, Geb: d 24 MAIJ 1802 Ou: STEPHANUS BOTMAN / HUIJBREG KLOETE G: STEPHANUS JACOBUS BOTMAN, JOHANNA CATARINA BOTMAN, CRISTIAAN BOTMAN, ALETTA FRANSINA BOTMAN *** THIS IS THE BAPTISM OF THE MAN WHO DIED ON SPREEUFONTEIN. *** Born 24 May 1802, carried to the Tulbagh font on 3 December, six months old. The date agrees to the day with the age of 72 years 1 month 6 days on his 1874 death notice (SRC-602), which was worked out before this page was seen. | THE SURNAME IS WRITTEN 'BOTMAN' THROUGHOUT THIS ENTRY, five times, and the mother is 'Huijbreg Kloete'. Kept as written; the person is Botma and Cloete everywhere the site names them. | FOUR BOTMA WITNESSES AND NOT ONE OUTSIDER. A STEPHANUS JACOBUS BOTMAN stands at the font, which is the exact form the 1874 death notice gives for the child's father; whether the witness IS the father, or a grandfather or brother of the same name, this page cannot say. [TO VERIFY] | AN ALETTA FRANSINA BOTMAN IS ALIVE AND STANDING AS A GODPARENT IN 1802, so she is not the Aletta Fransina Mouton who died in 1797, and she is very unlikely to be PER-000349, who was eight years old. She is a good candidate for heir 3 of SRC-601. LEAD-0319. | Entry 88 on the same page carries JOHANNIS JACOBUS KICHERER as a witness at Tulbagh in 1802. The same minister marries this child at Worcester in 1821 (SRC-599).
