A BROKEN FRAGMENT AND MOSTLY UNREADABLE. Letters scratched into cement before it set, in at least four lines. What can be read with any confidence: 'TER' on the top line, and 'BEU' at the end of the bottom line. Scattered capitals between them include what may be A, G, J, C, E, R and N, in no order that can be trusted. NOTHING ELSE IS TRANSCRIBED.

[FS GHNC-5TN] DAUGHTER OF PER-000029, AND THE REASON THE BEUKES CONNECTION TO THIS FARM RUNS PAST 1914. [FS] Born 15 April 1872 at Prins Albert, christened there 7 July 1872, and DIED ON 13 JANUARY 1922 AT VARSCH FONTEIN - the death place comes from a death notice, and it is eight years after her father was buried on the same farm. She married PIETER JOZUA OPPERMAN at Prins Albert on 2 April 1900 and had nine children between 1900 and 1918. Her FamilySearch profile carries a photograph that appears to be a gravestone, which is worth chasing: it may be one of the markers in this cemetery. ON THIS SITE BECAUSE THEY ARE ON THIS GROUND, not because they are kin: see PER-000029 for what the surname does and does not prove.

[7 Aug 2026] HER GRAVE IS FOUND. GRV-0031, the broken home-made cement marker in the Varsche Fontein cemetery, is hers - identified by Frans; the stone itself yields only TER and BEU. It confirms the death notice from the other end: she died at Varsch Fontein and she is buried there. SHE IS BURIED UNDER CEMENT AND HER FATHER, EIGHT YEARS EARLIER, UNDER BOUGHT MARBLE. Both are in the same small cemetery.
