Research notes
[FS GHNZ-H6T] Married Aletta Sophia Jacoba Beukes at Prins Albert, 2 April 1900 [FS]; nine children. His wife died at Varsch Fontein in 1922, so an OPPERMAN HOUSEHOLD was on the farm in the first quarter of the twentieth century. No Opperman has been looked for in this cemetery. ON THIS SITE BECAUSE THEY ARE ON THIS GROUND, not because they are kin: see PER-000029 for what the surname does and does not prove.
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
Open questions
-
Are the Varsche Fontein Beukes related to Christa's Beukes, or is it only the surname?
priority 2 · LEAD-0123
This project has recorded the Varsche Fontein Beukes as 'a cousin line on Frans's wife's side'. Is there an actual path, or was that inferred from the surname?
What would settle it A shared ancestor with both descents documented, or a demonstration that the two Beukes families are separate at the Cape.
