Research notes

SG diagram 8370/1937 (DOC-0312), approved 10 Mar 1938: 6987 morgen 567 sq roods, in the FIELD CORNETCY OF TRAKA, Willowmore division, on the TRAKA RIVIER. THE EXTENT CONFIRMS THE IDENTIFICATION INDEPENDENTLY: 6987 morgen is about 5984 ha and the cadastre polygon is 5971 ha, within a quarter of a percent.

Its own face names the neighbours and they are farms this project already holds: REMAINDER PORTION OF KARREE RIVIER (PAR-000101, No. 143) and PART OF SCHURFTE KOPJES, with PTN 1 (WESTBOURNE) inside it. So 144 was a hole in a run the record already had - 143, [144], 145, 147, [148].

The diagram is a Certificate of Consolidated Title compilation, deed 4457 of 6 May 1938, and it records two earlier transfers to W. F. QUINTON: Lots E and F on 30 Oct 1891, and a portion of part of Karree Rivier on 10 Apr 1891.

The 1929 diagram of Brakrivier No. 148 (SRC-492) describes part of the farm as 884 morgen 214 sq rds 'portion of the land transferred to J. A. OOSTHUIZEN on the 29th of May 1891'. Who was he?

What would settle it The 29 May 1891 transfer deed, which gives his full names. Failing that, an estate file or death notice for one of the four grandsons that names ground in the Willowmore division or the Field Cornetcy of Traka - all four have dates of death, so all four have a death notice to find.
