Supplied by | LODEWYK BOTHMA (1802-1874) MARRIED TWICE, which this project did not know. First JOSINA CORNELIA STEENBERG (1803-1833, GSF5-CWX) at Worcester on 3 April 1821, six children; then ELSJE JACOBA MARITZ (1813-1892, LYPT-YQ2) at Worcester on 26 January 1834, seven. He was widowed and remarried inside a year, which is the same pattern his grandson would repeat three times. | HIS SEVEN BY MARITZ open with FRANS STEPHANUS BOTMA 1834-1908 (L255-BGL), who is PER-000323 exactly, born eleven months after that wedding. The card therefore confirms the Spreeufontein line's own parentage from the other end. | HIS PARENTS: STEPHANUS BOTMA 1762-1830 (LH6F-TD5) and HUIBRECHT CLOETE 1763-1837 (MQL7-XBF), married at Cape Town on 3 November 1782, thirteen children. HIS GRANDPARENTS: Stephanus Botma 1730-1789 (L6J4-YHP) and ALETTA FRANSINA MOUTON 1734-1797 (LVN6-7GG), married at Tulbagh on 6 May 1753. | *** AND THIS ANSWERS THE RONDABEL QUESTION, THOUGH NOT THE WAY IT WAS ASKED. *** 10 Sept 1794, d. 5 Jan 1871) is related to the Spreeufontein Botmas. THE NAME COMES FROM ALETTA FRANSINA MOUTON, Lodewyk's own grandmother, so every branch of this family names a daughter for her and the name proves nothing on its own. THE CARD CARRIES TWO OF THEM AND NEITHER IS OURS: a sister ALETTA FRANCINA BOTMA 1787-1843 (LH6F-TKD) among Lodewyk's own thirteen siblings, and an aunt ALETTA FRANCINA BOTMA 1779 (PXDK-PWS) among Stephanus's eleven. Ours is 1794-1871 and matches neither. | SO: RELATED, ALMOST CERTAINLY, AND NOT A SISTER. The likeliest reading is a first cousin, a granddaughter of Stephanus Botma and Aletta Fransina Mouton through one of Stephanus junior's six brothers. NOT ASSERTED - her own parents are still the missing link, and this project holds only her mother, Johanna Barendina Visser. LEAD-0319. | [28 Aug 2026] layer corrected from 'index', which is not one of the four the vocabulary allows. Both are finding aids compiled from originals rather than the originals themselves, which is what derivative means here.
