Stamped pages 151 (left leaf) and 155 (right leaf); the entry is the last on page 151, under "Den 14 deto" following a "Den 7 November" heading. The register runs in a gebooren/vader/moeder/getuigen format with the BIRTH date given separately, which is NOT the format of Graaff-Reinet G6/3/1, so this is a different volume and the congregation is [TO VERIFY] - 5a-ii.

Gebooren den 12 January AO 1790. v[ader] DANIEL JACOBUS STRIJDOM, m[oeder] ANNA MAGDALENA CALES. g[etuigen] Johannes Mattewis Cales, Magdel[ena?] [?Coais], Johannes Mattewis Cales de Jonge, Hester Maria Catharina Cales de Jonge. | *** IT CONFIRMS PER-000209's BIRTH TO THE DAY. *** The model carried 12 January 1790 from the tree; the register states it. She is the woman who married Jacobus Johannes Oosthuizen at Uitenhage in 1808 and stood on the Olifants. | *** AND IT SETTLES LEAD-0283 IN THE MODEL'S FAVOUR. *** The mother is written CALES, and the witnesses are JOHANNES MATTEWIS CALES and JOHANNES MATTEWIS CALES DE JONGE - a father and a son of that name. THIS MODEL INDEPENDENTLY HOLDS TWO MEN CALLED JOHANNES MATTHEUS CALITZ, PER-000785 (b.1748, FS LCTG-KPP) and PER-000316. Cales is the register's form of CALITZ, and the correspondence of a senior and a junior on both sides is not something a coincidence produces. So ANNA MAGDALENA CALITZ (PER-000338, FS LZP9-TX6) stands, and the CARELSE read off the 1793 entry - here AND in FamilySearch's index (SRC-554) - is a misreading of the same surname. | WHY IT WAS WORTH DOUBTING ANYWAY: the 1793 entry carries the name twice, as the mother and as a witness, which is exactly the pattern that makes a reading look solid. Two independent readings of one hand agreed with each other and were both wrong; a SECOND DOCUMENT settled it. | THE CALITZ CONNECTION WAS ALREADY IN THIS PROJECT: the 1802 inventory (SRC-093) places three Oosthuysen orphans in "the household of Johannes Mattheus Calitz". The man standing witness at this baptism in 1790 is in the family's orbit twelve years later.

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
