The citation as it was given

SHE HAS A NAME NOW. The 1820 Lokenburg diagram calls her only "de Wede. Jacobus Adn. Louw"; this inventory names her: "Inventaris de boedel van wijlen van mejuffrouw MARIA ELISABETH LOUW, weduwe Jacobus Adriaan Louw, met den dood ontruymt en nagelaaten op den twee Augustus een duyzend acht hondert en drie en twintig, TER PLAATZE LOKENBURG in 't Onder Bokkeveld, drostdy Clan William." She was measured for in February 1820 and died on the farm on 2 AUGUST 1823, three years later. SHE WAS A MONEYLENDER, OR AT LEAST A CREDITOR, which is what the estate mostly consists of - a series of obligations and schuldbekentenissen rather than stock: Charles Johannes Overholster rd:s1200 at 5 percent, Nicolaas Maree rd:s1000, PETRUS BURGER P.z. rd:s890, Joh. Petrus Gous rd:s100, Jan Lock rd:s100, Martinus Nicolaas Ras rd:s400, IZAK JACOBUS VAN DER MERWE rd:s100, ALEWIJN JOHANNES SMIT rd:s200, Daniel Jacobus Louw D.z. TWO OF HER DEBTORS CARRY NAMES THIS PROJECT IS FOLLOWING: a van der Merwe owing her money in October 1822, and a Burger. Neither is identified. [TO VERIFY] LEAD-0149. | *** [18 Aug 2026] THIS SHEET ANSWERS LEAD-0151, AND IT HAD BEEN HERE SINCE 10 AUGUST. *** His is not - but his WIDOW'S is, and it is this one, and its debtor list is the family. | THE PATRONYMICS DECIDE IT. Bond no. 9 is 'ten lasten DANIEL JACOBUS LOUW D:Z: groot rd:s2000' - DANIELSZOON. The man who took Matjesfontein No. 791 in 1834 is DANIEL'S son, so he is NOT a son of Jacobus Adriaan Louw and NOT a brother of Anna Jacoba. | AND HE IS INSIDE THE FAMILY'S CREDIT ALL THE SAME, for a sum that sits among the sons': no. 21 Jacobus Adriaan Louw J:A: ZOON rd 3,401; no. 23 Johannes Louw JAC: ZOON rd 5,226; no. 24 SCHALK WILLEM VAN DER MERWE C:A: ZOON rd 7,816, who is Anna Jacoba's own husband; and no. 7 IZAK JACOBUS VAN DER MERWE rd 100, who forty-five years later is married to her daughter Elizabeth Susanna. Daniel Jacobus's rd 2,000 is in that company. | *** AND THE PLACE LINE IS THE OTHER HALF. *** The inventory was taken 'ter plaatze LOKENBURG in 't ONDER BOKKEVELD, drostdy CLAN WILLIAM' - the same field cornetcy and the same drostdy that diagram 421/1834 gives for Matjesfontein No. 791. Lokenburg and 791 are neighbours in the administrative sense. | SO: NOT A BROTHER, AND NOT A STRANGER. A Louw of another line, in the same field cornetcy, bound to this household for two thousand rixdollars eleven years before he took the farm.
