Who stood with them

Who signed at a baptism, a will or a survey is not incidental. It is the clearest surviving record of which families stood close to which.

Others of the same name

Afrikaans naming repeats hard, and the Cape Dutch naming pattern reuses a name on purpose, a child who died young has the name given again to a later sibling. These are different people. Never match on a name alone.

A sourced gap beats an unsourced fill. These are the open questions on this person, stated rather than papered over.

Research notes

[TREE] Added 2026-07-31 by kin_sweep.py under the one-degree rule: child of Gert Adriaan OosthuizenM. Thin record, name, dates and the family link only. NO PLACE IMPORTED: the tree's place strings are systematically wrong and are not evidence.

[7 Aug 2026] HE IS THE CHILD ON THE UITNOOD STONE, and the identification is arithmetic rather than a name match. Born 28 November 1839, he was two years and ten months old to the month on that day. The model holds ELEVEN men called Ockert Jacobus OosthuizenL and only one of them was that age in October 1842, which is what makes this safe under 9 - name AND date, never name alone. His death date was blank until now. HE IS THE EARLIEST DATED OOSTHUIZEN BURIAL THIS PROJECT HAS FOUND ON THE GROUND - seventeen years before Ockert Almero OosthuizenL died in 1859 - and he puts his father Gert Adriaan OosthuizenM's household in the Swartberge, 23 km from Klaarstroom, in 1842.

These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
