The citation as it was given

Found 2 Nov 2026 by searching the MOOC8 corpus for van der Byl Eighty-two mentions across the volumes held here, and all but this one are Stellenbosch and Cape wine-country creditors. TRANSCRIBED, from the Vorderingen: 'van Piet:r van der Byl weg:s kooppenn: van den opstal eener leenings plaats gen:d de Quaggas Vally onder de colonie Graaffe Reynet - Rd:s 1000, behalven d' intresten van de verkoopdag, waarop egter ontvangen is rd:s80'. *** WHY IT IS HERE: A PIETER VAN DER BYL ON FRONTIER LOAN-PLACE GROUND IN THE 1790s. *** The question it was found for is who the Van der Byl of Van der Byls Kraal No. 265 was, since diagram B355/1831 shows the farm and its river already carrying the name while a Kruger held it. This man is NOT that answer: Quaggas Vally in the Graaff-Reinet colony is not Van der Byls Kraal, and that colony then ran very wide. What it does is show that a Pieter van der Byl held loan-place ground on the frontier in the right decades, which no place string in the 44 143-person tree does - of its 206 van der Byls, not one carries a Karoo place. PER-001496, Pieter van der Byl d. 1800, is a bare tree row with no place of its own and cannot be matched to this man on a name. The estate's own farms, Roodeheuvel and Buffelsklip on the Olifants, are ground this project already holds at SRC-527 and SRC-528. [TO VERIFY]

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
