Figuur de in Erfpacht verzochte LEENINGSPLAATS DE ZACHTE VALLY inhoudende 2227 Morgen 476 Quadraat Roeden. De Figuur D.M.N.E. is een stuk Land geleegen buiten de Leeningsplaats de Zachte Vally en door den [?leegen voor dige besitte] in Erfpacht verzocht groot 116 Morgen & 849 Quadraat Roeden.' Lantm.' *** WHY THIS SETTLES THE IDENTIFICATION. *** Three things, none of which depends on the cadastral name field. It is a LEENINGSPLAATS, which is what an opstal sits on and is exactly what MOOC8/6.51 describes - 'een opstal geleegen in 't Land van Waveren gen:t de Sagte Valleij'. It is spelled DE ZACHTE VALLY in the register's own hand, one step from de Sagte Valleij and not the cadastre's ZAGTE VALLEY. And its two named neighbours, de Kruisvally and de Groote Vally, are KRUYS VALLEY No. 187 and GROOTE VALLEI No. 223 in the modern cadastre, 2,0 and 2,3 km away - so the 1816 loan places and the numbered farms are the same ground. *** AND THE HOLDER IN 1816 IS A THERON, NOT A VAN DER MERWE. *** Surveyed for D. J. Theron G.Z., in D. J. Theron's own veldcornetschap, with C. W. Theron's loan place to the east. Seventy-six years separate the 1740 inventory from this sheet and the model holds nothing in between. THE FACE also carries the farming detail, which is worth having for its own sake: 'Woonhuis' beside the water, 'De Waterleep 't geheel jaar Van water voorsien', 'Fontein hou dit geheele jaar door Sterk', 'Gemeen Weijland (oostal) maar meenigt met klippen 1295[?] Morgen', 'Middelmatig Weijland 6564 Morgen', 'Zeer geschikt tot Zaaij land 148 Morgen', 'Goed Zaail Land geculiveerd 370 Quad Roeden', 'Goed Zaail 42 Morgen', 'Goed Zaail Land 10 Morg', 'Tuinland 6 Morgen', 'Tuinland 4 Morg', 'Wiesen weg de na de Kerck straat gaat', and the Breede River at the north-west corner.
