SCHUTTE, Sworn Surveyor.' | *** FIELD-CORNETCY OF GROOTE SWARTEBERG, DISTRICT OF SWELLENDAM. *** The same field-cornetcy named on SG 649/1838 for Wolvefontein No. 137, and the 'gel: aan de Swartberg' of the 1808 opgaafrol's farms column (SRC-483). | *** AND IT ANSWERS A QUESTION *** Reading the 1808 roll he asked 'is that bottom one ockerskraal aan de grote rivier?' - THE GROOT RIVER IS THE RIVER OF THIS COUNTRY, named twice on this sheet, and Ockertskraal adjoins Rietfontein 20 km south-west. | The face carries the land use in morgen: waste land 166, 85, 30 and 325; common grazing 1095; cultivated ground 50 sq roods and several small parcels of 12 and 6 morgen along the water conducts; 'about 6000 Morgens of vacant common' to the west; 'Mountains called Swarteberg' to the east. | EXTENT AGREES WITH THE MODERN POLYGON: 1740 morgen 50 sq rds is about 1,491 ha against the cadastre's 1,459.7.
