*** THIS IS THE FARM OF MOOC8/50.101a, AND THE SHEET SAYS SO IN ITS OWN WORDS. *** 'The annexed diagram A - D represents the LOANPLACE WELBEDAGT of 2890 morgen of land, Landholder JOHANNES PETRUS WAGENER situated in the FIELDCORNETCY ATTAQUAS KLOOF DISTRICT OF GEORGE.' The 1792 estate of Marthinus Oosthuysen Jansz (PER-001851) calls his place 'de lenings plaats gen:t Welbedagt gelegen inde Attaquascloof aan de Oliphants Rivier' - loan place, Attaquaskloof, Olifants. Every element matches, and the NW boundary of this diagram is annotated 'Water Supply by the Olifants River'. LEAD-0223 closed. | BOUNDARIES: N by E and W to Government Ground; E to No. 57 Quitrent; S-wards Barren Hills. The map face carries '3972 Morgen of Govt Ground sweet Nature' along the Olifants, 'About 500 Morgen of Govt Ground sweet Nature No Water' to the north, 'Comm Arrable 20 Morg cultiv' at the centre and 'Grazing Ground' across the middle. Quitrent No. 51 lies on the south-east. | THE EXTENT WAS CORRECTED SIXTY-NINE YEARS LATER: 'Under authority of letter from the Honble the Commr of Crown Lands dated 22 Oct. 1890, I do hereby certify that 3067 morg. x 60 sq.rds shall be considered to be the true extent of the ground represented by this diagram instead of 2890 morgen.' Signed L. Marquard, Surveyor-General, 29 Oct 1890. 3,067 morgen is about 2,627 ha, against the 2,963 ha the modern cadastre gives farm 150. | AND NO OOSTHUIZEN IS ON IT. That is the expected answer, not a contrary one: Marthinus died in 1792 and his widow's estate was wound up that year, so by 1821 the loan place had passed on. The question the sheet opens is who held it between 1792 and 1821. | Title Geo.Q3-64 of 11 September 1821 - a GEORGE quitrent on ground the cadastre now numbers under Oudtshoorn, which is the 1811 district split showing in a deed number.
