WHY THIS MATTERS MORE THAN THE ROLL THIS PROJECT ALREADY HELD. SRC-178, the Wenkommando roll of 388 names, carries a de Villiers/Pama code for only 74 of its entries. THIS LIST CARRIES THE CODE FOR THE VAN ZYL ENTRY: b3c2d11e3, with a birth date of 20 September 1809. | BOTH MATCH PER-001265 EXACTLY - Jacobus Stephanus van Zyl, born 20 September 1809, died 10 April 1906, husband of Susanna Catharina Oosthuizen of Middelwater. So the identification of the Bloedrivier participant stops resting on the family's own account (SRC-179) and rests on a checked list that names the man by code and by date. | The neighbouring entries on the page fix its character: Van Staden, Van Straaten, Van Vuuren, Van Zyl, Venter, alphabetical, each with a Pama code, a baptism or birth date, and reference codes of the form R21/38 and R22/38 which are presumably the archive documents the name was checked against.
