Gemeten op last der Commissie van Inspectie den 17 February 1820. door my (Get.) Jn. Schutte." A SECOND WIDOW HOLDS A SECOND FAMILY FARM. Tygerhoek was measured in 1823 for the widow of William Petrus Burger; Lokenburg in 1820 for the widow of Jacobus Adriaan LOUW. Schalk Willem van der Merwe married ANNA JACOBA LOUW and died on this farm on 29 May 1866 [SRC-346], and his own children include an Anna Jacoba Louw and an Elizabeth Susanna Louw. The Louw name is on the ground and in the marriage. That is a connection worth testing and is not yet evidence. [TO VERIFY] LEAD-0149. PART ONE, the diagram face, is a land-quality survey rather than a plain outline. It divides the farm into blocks and names each: Schraal Weiland of 1224 mg 54 rds, 1011 mg 165 rds, 665 mg 396 rds and 1280 mg 150 rds; Goede Weiland of 598 mg 10 rds, 2076 mg 270 rds and 63 mg; Middelmatig Weiland of 689 mg 25 rds, 235 mg 200 rds and 92 mg; and several patches of gecultiveerd land of 4, 5 and 6 morgen. Four fountains, every one qualified: 'geheel jaar water doch zwak', 'gevende het geheel jaar water zeer zwak', 'houd het geheel jaar water', 'gevende het geheel jaar water doch zeer zwak'. The Uienvlei river is marked 'droog in den zomer'. NEIGHBOURS, and they are people rather than farms: government ground requested by J. MOSTERD annexed to his leeningsplaats QUISPBERG; ground requested by ADn. LOUW annexed to his erfpacht; and the leeningsplaats DE MENSIESKRAAL requested in erfpacht by P. VAN ZYL and the widow Jacobus Louw. Also named: the Ruggens, the Stinkfonteins gebergte, and the roads 'naar de plaats Quispberg', 'naar de Hantam' and 'van de Kaap'. THE DEDUCTION TABLE gives seven portions cut between 1872 and 1892: dgm 364/1872 ptn 1, 678 mg 6 rds, deed 1872-36-351; dgm 71/1872 ptn 2, 44 mg 576 rds, deed 1872-36-353; dgm 419/1891 ptn 3, 2344 mg, deed 9.5.1892-2163; dgm 418/1891 ptn 4, 11 mg 156 rds, deed 1892-25-2162; dgm 419/1891 ptn 5, 265.4 rds, deed 1892-25-2163; dgm 420/1891 ptn 6, 2429 mg, deed 1892-25-2164; dgm 422/1891 ptn 7, 1 mg 359 rds, deed 1892-25-2165. OUDE MUUR AND LOKENBURG WERE TITLED ON THE SAME DAY, 20 February 1832, under the Worcester quitrent series - Wor. Q. 5-52 and Wor. Q. 5-66 [SRC-361]. Both were surveyed by Jn. Schutte for the Commissie van Inspectie in 1820, seventeen days apart.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
