TRANSCRIPTION, verbatim, from the printed Cape form with the clerk's answers. 1. Name of the Deceased: "Schalk Willem van der Merwe Carel Aaron Zoon" (the word Aaron is inserted above the line). 2. Birth place of the Deceased: "Elsenbosch 24 Rivieren (Dist. Piketberg)". 3. Names of the Parents of the Deceased: "Carel Aaron van der Merwe [and] Els[i]e Johanna van Heerd[en]". 4. Age of the Deceased: "72 jaren 3 maanden 28 dagen". 5. Condition in life: "Landbouwer". 6. Married or unmarried, widower or widow: "Gehuwd". 7. The Day of the Decease: "den 29 Mei 1866". 8. At what House, or where the Person died: "ter plaats Lokenburg". 9. Names of the Children of Deceased, and whether Minors or Majors: "De namen der kinderen zijn als volgt, allen meerderjarig. 1. Jacobus Adriaan {overleden nalatende 4 kinderen waarvan 1 minderjarig is}. 2. Carel Aaron {overleden en meerderjarige dochter nalatende}. 3. Maria Catharina Elizabeth. 4. Schalk Willem Jacobus. 5. Whether Deceased has left any Property, and of what kind: "Losse en vaste goederen". Signed "B. [F.] Kleinenberg" (the surname is a probable reading and the initials are not clear). WHAT THE AGE PROVES. 72 years 3 months 28 days before 29 May 1866 is 1 February 1794, which is the birth date FamilySearch carries for PER-001635 to the day, and the birthplace on the notice is the birthplace on his FamilySearch page word for word. The identification is not on the name.

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
