Research notes
GRANTED THE LOAN FARM RIETFONTEIN 'IN DE KOU' IN 1763, as a youth, and by December 1778 some thirteen years of rent were unpaid on it [SRC-694]. Mossop argues 'de Kou' is an error for Koup rather than the Koo of the present Montagu district; that is HIS argument and this project has not tested it. If it holds, this is a loan farm in the Koup fourteen years before the 1777 that 1 takes as the beginning. Married 17 December 1780 Geertruyda Margaretha Coetsee, baptised 21 August 1763, daughter of Ockert Casper Coetsee, burgher of Swellendam, and Elsie van Wyk. LEAD-0373. [TO VERIFY]
