The citation as it was given

PUBLISHED AND ARCHIVALLY REFERENCED, which is what separates it from a family register: Mossop cites the opgaafrolle (J), RLR, MOOC, CJ, CO, the Council of Policy and the Master's Office volume by volume, and his abbreviation key is printed at the front. He is writing the ancestry of President Paul Kruger and the Koup appears because Krugers held and administered ground there. WHY IT MATTERS HERE: it names a FIELD CORNET OF THE KOUP in a decade this model had empty. Samuel de Beer is on record about 1813 and Matthys Andries de Beer in 1833-34; Mossop puts PIETER ERNST KRUGER as Deputy Field Cornet for the Koup from 1818, with a confidential service report of 8 December 1827 under Landdrost Harding of Beaufort crediting nine years one month, and noting he spoke no English. It also carries a loan farm in the Koup FOURTEEN YEARS BEFORE 1777: Carel Kruger was granted Rietfontein 'in de Kou' in 1763, and Mossop argues in his own text that 'de Kou' is an error for Koup and not the Koo of Montagu - an argument, not a fact, and it is his.
