Research notes
A worker on Droogekloof in the drought of 1926-1929, remembered by name and in her own words in two family memoirs (SRC-585, SRC-586's frame): she stormed the werf with a blade of lean meat - 'hoe dink die maaster nou moet ek hierdie stuk bloumaer vleis eet?' - and the farmer answered that the only fat thing left on the place was himself. She and her husband tended the trek to the Langkloof through which 1,500 of 5,000 sheep and goats survived. Created under 6's story route: the story needed somebody to be about, and she is one of the few farm workers of this district the record preserves by name and voice. No dates; an adult in 1926, so long deceased.
