[TREE] Added 29 Jul 2026 under the people-related-to-the-land rule: father/mother Maria Margaretha WaltersH (PER-000174). Thin record; dates as in the tree.
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-395] SHE WAS CALLED LENIE, and she is the Kruger the family means. Her granddaughter's typescript: "ons ouma Walters se nooiensvan was KRUGER. Die Carnarvon Kruger's." So the Kruger connection this family carries runs through HER, not through her husband, whatever the handwritten note on the same page says. DIE CARNARVON KRUGERS is the useful phrase: it narrows where to look. AND HER OWN MOTHER WAS BORN SMUTS - "Haar ma was weer 'n nooi SMUTS". That puts a Smuts in this direct maternal line, and it is probably why the family knew Jan Smuts well enough for him to stand godfather to her son in 1911. Neither her Kruger nor her Smuts ancestry is documented here.
