Research notes
[TREE] Added 29 Jul 2026 under the people-related-to-the-land rule: father/mother Maria Margaretha WaltersH (PER-000174). Thin record; dates as in the tree.
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-392] "ONS OUPA WALTERS ... WAS DIE NEEF VAN PRESIDENT PAUL KRUGER." That is Trudie's 1987 memoir naming this man, her mother's father, as a cousin of Kruger, and pointing back to a first page this project does not hold: "Lees in die begin waar ons voorouers by Krugers inskakel." THIS MODEL ALREADY CONTAINS BOTH SURNAMES IN HIS OWN HOUSEHOLD, which is worth knowing before anyone goes looking. HIS WIFE IS MAGDALENA MARIA KRUGER, so any Kruger kinship his children had runs through their MOTHER and he would be kin by marriage, not by blood - which is exactly the kind of thing a family memory rounds off. AND HIS SON BORN IN 1911 IS CHRISTENED JACOBUS ABRAHAM SMUTS WALTERS (PER-000723). A surname carried as a given name is how this whole record works - Schalk Willem BURGER, Jacobus NEL, Elizabeth Susanna LOUW - so a Smuts in that position points at a Smuts in the ancestry rather than at a politician. Neither Kruger nor Smuts kinship is established here and neither is dismissed. LEAD-0164.
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-393] HIS CONSENT IS ON THE 1919 MARRIAGE REGISTER - "J. A. Walters, vader" - which confirms he is Maria Margarietha's father from an original document rather than from the tree. A J. M. Walters signs as a witness at the same wedding and is not identified.
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
