Research notes

[SRC-072] Cut from Venterskraal and registered to Jacobus Johannes SwanepoelH on the same day the parent farm was split, 10 Mar 1857 (transport 151). A farm named for the family that took it. Sold out of the family 14 Dec 1897. [29 Jul 2026, verification pass] Cadastre match stripped: this parcel wore Wolwekraal No.17's whole-farm record (11,464 ha) - a 2,000-morgen portion cut from Venterskraal cannot be the whole farm. No modern record named Swanepoelsaanleg exists in the division; all of farm 17's pieces carry "WOLVE KRAAL". Left unmatched.

[1 Aug 2026, from the LEAD-0007 extent audit] EXTENT OUTLIER, FLAGGED NOT FIXED. The record says 2,000 morgen = 1,713 ha; the matched cadastre polygon is 11,464 ha, six and a half times larger. Every other disagreement in the model runs the other way, a historic whole against a modern portion. Larger reads as a match to a CONSOLIDATED modern farm that has absorbed neighbouring ground, which would make the polygon right for the name and wrong for the 2,000-morgen grant. [TO VERIFY] against the farm's own diagram and deduction table.

IT WAS DRAWN AT NEARLY SEVEN TIMES ITS SIZE, ON TOP OF ITS OWN NEIGHBOUR. *** This row carries farm_no 17 and no portion, so the matcher gave it the WHOLE-FARM polygon of Wolwekraal No. 17 - the identical key PAR-000054 holds, 11,464 ha - against a recorded extent of 2,000 morgen, which is 1,713 ha. Ratio 6.7. Wolwekraal's own match is sound at 0.92, so the two rows were sharing one polygon and one of them had to be wrong. Swanepoel's Aanleg is a PORTION of farm 17, not the farm. Which portion is not determinable from what is held: the candidates in the cadastre are 4/17 at 1,392.7 ha, 5/17 at 1,351.3 ha, 12/17 at 1,349.7 ha and 11/17 at 1,592.7 ha, and none is a clean fit to either 2,000 morgen or the 1,458 morgen transferred in 1879. Guessing one would repeat the mistake that put Haggas 104 km wrong, so it carries NO-POLYGON until a diagram says. [TO VERIFY] the Wolwekraal deduction table.

Re-running match_cadastre.py against the current CSVs changes 11 parcels and does not reproduce what is in parcels.csv. Which is right?

What would settle it Deciding per parcel whether the script's match or the hand entry is correct, then either fixing the script's name-matching or recording the hand values as deliberate.

Swanepoel's Aanleg was sold out of the family on 14 December 1897, to the Venter who had been buying Venterskraal fragments since 1879. Was this distress, or the last step of a deliberate re-assembly of the old Wolwekraal ground?
