Louis van Wyk takes up Vergelegen in the Cango

Grazing rights on the loan place Vergelegen 'in die Cango agter de Cochemans Cloof', beside the Cango river: one of the first trekboer holdings in what became the Oudtshoorn district. Louis van Wyk was the uncle of Susanna Catharina van Tonder, whose husband Ockert Oosthuizen would die on the Olifants in 1809. The start of this family's road into the Cango and the Olifants. Grobbelaar's Gango aan Doringrivier from 1760. Context: of 214 loan places issued east of Kogmanskloof in 1740-1791, 54% were occupied for five years or less.
