Jan Adriaan Venter dies at the place Rondavel
23 July 1829 · family · Prince Albert
Died on Rondavel 'between the hours of 11 and 12 p:m:', field cornetcy of Hermanus van der Westhuisen, Traka, district of Beaufort, aged 34 - the earliest beyond-doubt record of a household on the Koup Rondabel, four years before Stretch's survey. His widow Maria Catharina (Elisabeth) Venter is the ELDER SISTER of Adriana Cecilia Venter (PER-000002) - the root couple's family on the farm next to Middelwater. The estate: 707 sheep and goats, one bed, three chairs, a defect ox wagon; no cash, no slaves; every debt owed to the widow's own Venter family. Inventory taken on the farm 29 Oct 1829 (MOOC8/44.48, INV-0007); the widow signed with a mark. Five heirs born 1819-1827, incl. Johanna Jacomina Petronella Catharina (PER-000085, the later Mrs Swanepoel of Rietkuil) and Jan Adriaan jr (PER-000096, the later Venterskraal man). Son Jan Louis (b. 14 Sep 1821, his father's own birthday) was born at WOLVE KRAAL - twenty years before Wolwekraal's 1841 grant to Johannes Hendrik Venter (PER-000095), most probably the widow's brother [TO VERIFY].
