Research notes

Baptism of ALETTA KATHARINA MARY HELENA HITGES (PER-000139), born 11 June 1846, daughter of Charles Frederik Hitges (PER-000327) and Sophia Johanna MockeM (PER-000136). She is Frans's direct 2x-great-grandmother. Baptised AFTER her father's death on 29 July 1846 - the death notice DOC-0110 calls her "an infant, not yet baptized". The two records interlock and each confirms the other. WITNESSES, as written: Aletta Katharina Roux; Nicolaas Hitges; Maria Hunt; Johan Godfried MockeL; Hester Adriana Carolina Hitges; George Joseph Hitges; Christina Bleterwick [reading uncertain]; Johannes Cornelis Jansen van Vuren; Helena Geertruida Mostert. Both sets of grandparents stand in the list, which is what one expects at a fatherless infant's baptism. Individually recorded in witnesses.csv. VERNOEMINGSPATROON HOLDS EXACTLY: first daughter takes the mother's mother's name, and the mother's mother is Aletta Catharina RouxM (PER-000473) - who is standing right there as a witness. "Mary" then carries the father's mother, Mary/Maria Hunt (PER-000347), also present. This is corroboration of the Mocke line established 30 Jul 2026, from a document that had nothing to do with establishing it.
