Research notes
Death notice of CHARLES FREDERIK HITGE (PER-000327), farmer, died 29 July 1846 at "Vrolykheid Zwarteberg" - i.e. ON VROLYKHEID (PAR-000014), one of the five core farms. Full transcription in SRC notes. THE FINDING THAT MATTERS: the model previously carried his death place as Oorlogs Kloof, taken from the family-tree. This primary notice, signed by his own brother and filed within five weeks, says Vrolykheid. Corrected per 10 (original > register > tree > memory). [TO VERIFY] the two are different farms, not variants, so the tree's Oorlogs Kloof is either a straight error or a conflation with a later Hitge holding - worth one check against the estate file. Age "27 years 11 months & 29 days" at death on 1846-07-29 computes back to a birth about 30 July 1818, NOT the Jul 1819 the tree and FamilySearch carry [TO VERIFY]. "An infant, not yet baptized" is his only child - Aletta Katharina Mary Helena (PER-000139), born 11 June 1846 and baptised after his death; her baptism entry is the companion record.
