Verouderd: hieronder beantwoord [22 Sep 2026, SRC-665] APPEL: a 'Jan Oosthuysen (jr.)' farmed 'Webedagt aan die Rietfontein' for almost a quarter century and by April 1778 was so poor he could not pay 13 years and 11 months of arrears on the loan farm; the government let him suspend payment (RLR 18 p. 19). WHICH JAN IS OPEN (LEAD-0362). The LABEL fits this man, 'Jan Oosthuijsen d'jonge' on the Swellendam rolls of 1760 and 1770. The DATES fit his father (PER-001828) better: this Jan was about 17 in 1753.

Verouderd: hieronder beantwoord [22 Sep 2026, FRANS] MOST LIKELY APPEL'S 'Jan Oosthuysen (jr.)' of Welbedagt (PAR-000277), farming with his brother Marthinus: he dies in 1782, which is the year Marthinus's arrears begin. LEAD-0362.

[22 Sep 2026, He is Appel's 'Jan Oosthuysen (jr.)' who farmed Welbedagt (PAR-000277) almost a quarter century and was ruined in April 1778, owing 13 years 11 months of recognitiepenninge (SRC-665, RLR 18 p. 19). He died in 1782 and his brother Marthinus (PER-001851) took the farm on in the same year. LEAD-0362 closed.

[22 Sep 2026] AND THE FARM IS NOW IN DOUBT, THOUGH THE MAN IS NOT. Ockert Olivier holds Welbedagt aan die Olifantsrivier from 1772 (SRC-669), inside the years Appel's Jan is in arrears on 'Webedagt aan die Rietfontein'. So this man's Welbedagt may be a different farm from PAR-000277. See OWN-000122 and PAR-000277.

[23 Sep 2026] THE FARM IS NOT IN DOUBT AFTER ALL: Welbedagt west of Oudtshoorn is the only one on the Olifants, and Appel's 'aan die Rietfontein' names it by its neighbour. See PAR-000277. What is open is when he left, since his payments stopped about 1764 and Ockert Olivier had a permit on the ground from 1772.

On Welbedagt Nr. 150 (Attaquaskloof, Oudtshoorn), Johannes OosthuisenH is the last owner recorded from 1753~, and the next entry is Ockert Olivier d'oude from 1772, 19 years later, with no person in common. No document records the handover at all.

What would settle it The Deeds Office transfer register for this farm between 1753 and 1772. A transfer names its predecessor in title, so one deed closes the whole gap.
