Supplied by Sixteen pages of FamilySearch CATALOGUE numbers for South African civil and church records that are NOT indexed on NAAIRS, which is the point of it: NAAIRS is where this project's leads usually stop, and an unindexed film is invisible to a NAAIRS search however many times it is repeated. *** IT IS A FINDING AID, NOT EVIDENCE. *** Nothing in it is a record. Every entry is a pointer at a film, and a catalogue number is a claim about where something is filed, not about what it says. Anything read out of these collections gets its own source row under 5a, with the ark, film and image number. WHAT IT ACTUALLY REACHES IN THIS PROJECT, checked against the open leads rather than admired: 14. OPGAAFROLLEN (tax census lists) 1787-1847, catalogues 221850 and 17063. TWENTY-ONE open leads turn on tax rolls, including LEAD-0078, LEAD-0079, LEAD-0213, LEAD-0221, LEAD-0229 and LEAD-0230, and this project's own rolls (SRC-486, SRC-558, SRC-559, SRC-605) came in one page at a time from Frans. 17. MOOC CAPE DEATH REGISTERS 1758-1833, catalogue 25423, with Cornel Viljoen's index at southafrica.mypeoplepuzzle.net/DeathRegisters1758_1833.html. ONE-LINE DEATH ENTRIES FROM BEFORE CERTIFIED DEATH CERTIFICATES, which only start in 1894. That window holds Jacobus Oosthuysen d'oude (1802), Jan Louis Venter (dead before the 1823 roll), Johanna Jacomina Smit and Stephanus Botma (1830), none of whom has a death record here. LEAD-0330. 21. PUPILLEN REGISTERS 1825-1833, MOOC 16/1 to 16/22: wards of the state, mostly orphans, giving birth year or date, PARENTAGE, and sometimes the marriage partner. The 1809 Modder Fonteyn estate placed seven minors with their eldest brother and several were still minors into the 1820s. 15. REGISTER OF SLAVES 1762-1838, catalogue 543577, and 1833-1845, catalogue 2030765. STO-0021 says in its own words that the Cape records for its ten enslaved and free-black ancestors have not been consulted, and names only the First Fifty Years project. This is a second and different route. LEAD-0076, LEAD-0112. 2.232. WORCESTER VELDKORNET LISTS 1809-1836, catalogue 221806. SRC-599 enters Lodewyk Botma and his father-in-law as 'burger alhier' at Worcester in 1821; a veldkornet list would put them on ground rather than in a town. 2.26 and 2.27. BEAUFORT WEST births and marriages (198082) and deaths 1875-1894 (985756). Cornel Viljoen's indexes to the DRC baptism DUPLICATES, the ring books, at southafrica.mypeoplepuzzle.net/NGK_Cape_RingBooks.html. Where an original register is lost or illegible the duplicate survives, and several of this project's register readings are at the edge of legibility. 2.4. CAPE MARRIAGES 1794-1839, catalogue 211138, with the alphabetical index image numbers written out. *** AND THE MOST USEFUL THING IN IT IS AN ABSENCE. PRINCE ALBERT IS NOT IN THE LIST AT ALL. *** Beaufort West, Oudtshoorn, Willowmore, Laingsburg, Ladismith, George, Swellendam, Worcester, Tulbagh, Graaff-Reinet, Calvinia, Sutherland, Fraserburg and Riversdale each have entries; this district has none. That is consistent with what this project already reads - our people register at Beaufort West - but it is worth having stated by somebody else's index rather than inferred from our own gaps. [TO VERIFY] whether Prince Albert is genuinely unfilmed or simply absent from one compiler's list. THE FILE ITSELF IS NOT IN THIS REPO. It carries the compiler's personal email address on page 1, and copying a third party's document into a repository is a decision for Frans and not a filing step.
