THE ROOT ANCESTOR'S PATRONYMIC, IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND. *** 'Ockert Almero Oosthuisen, OCKERT ZOON' confirms PER-000118 as his father from a document rather than from a tree. AND IT SPEAKS DIRECTLY TO LEAD-0213. The Vrolykheid diagram of 1833 reads 'Jacobus Johannes Oosthuisen As. son', and the two men are brothers, so the same father should appear on both. This roll shows what the convention actually looked like in this family in this decade: the father's FIRST NAME, written out, 'Ockert Zoon'. On that parallel the Vrolykheid sheet should read Ockert too, and it does not. So 'As.' is either a copyist's error on the 1963 sheet or not a patronymic of this kind at all. It does not settle the lead; it sharpens what the lead is asking. [TO VERIFY] *** 2. IT CLOSES A [TO VERIFY] OPENED THE SAME MORNING. *** Line 15 is 'BAREND DU PREEZ, HERMANUS CAREL ZOON'. Hours earlier this project had noted that a Barend du Preez stands near Hermanus Carel du Preez (PER-001911) on the 1822 roll, that the Klaare Stroom holder has a son Barend born 29 January 1804, and that the match was a convergence worth testing and not to be asserted. The 1823 clerk asserts it. He is PER-001944. *** 3. JAN LOUIS VENTER IS ALREADY DEAD. *** Line 16 enters JOHANNA JACOMINA SMIT as 'WEDUWE van wylen Jan Louis Venter', heading her own household. This project carries them both as dying in 1824. He cannot have: the roll has her widowed before it was taken. It also bears on the older contradiction on PER-000120 - the 1829 Rondavel estate owes money to 'the widow of Jan Louis Venter' while the tree kills her in 1824. She was demonstrably alive and widowed in 1823, so the 1829 widow is very plausibly her and it is the DEATH DATES that are wrong rather than the estate. In 1822 he and she stood together at line 21 with MIDDEL WATER against them (SRC-559); a year later she stands alone. LEAD-0330. [16 Sep 2026] THE YEAR. This image belongs to the volume read in full as SRC-634. Its closing summary is dated 3 February to 3 March 1824 and compares itself with the roll of 1822, so the roll was taken in early 1824; FamilySearch catalogues the volume as 1823. The title here keeps the catalogue year. The page heading is 'Smaldeel van C. Hatting Swarteberg', and the facing leaf writes 'Middelwater 1/2' against lines 13 and 16.

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
