PIETER MARTHINUS IS NEW HERE - and SRC-518, the Roodezand register, gives his birth as 9 JUNE 1795. He turned sixteen in June 1811, which is why he is counted as a son in his brother's household on the 1811 roll and stands as a householder in his own right on this one. A birth date read off a baptism register in the Boland predicts, to the year, when a man appears in a tax roll 700 km away. | *** AND THE HOUSEHOLD COUNTS FIT THE FOSTER LIST. *** The 1809 estate left seven minors with this brother. Those under sixteen in 1811 were Pieter Marthinus 15, Roelof 12 and Daniel Jacobus Johannes 3 - THREE SONS - and Susanna Johanna 10 and Sara Maria 7 - TWO DAUGHTERS. SRC-522 counts exactly 3 and 2. By 1813 Pieter Marthinus has left the count, giving Roelof and Daniel - TWO SONS - and the same two daughters, and this roll reads 2 sons and THREE daughters, the extra one consistent with a child of his own. THE ARITHMETIC IS AN INFERENCE, NOT A READING: it assumes his own children by Anna Magdalena Strydom are few and young, which is not independently established. [TO VERIFY] | IMAGE 165 is a DIFFERENT PART OF THE ROLL and carries a separate 'JACOBUS OOSTHUIJSEN', one man, no wife entered, among van Vuurens, van Staadens, Jordaans and Ferreiras - 'Ignat: Michiel Ferreijer x Petron: du Plessis' and 'Susanna Mag: Ferreijer'. NOT IDENTIFIED and not assumed to be one of ours; the surname is common and the veldcornetcy is not the same. | IMAGE 182 is the facing landerijen leaf. A farm entry on it appears to read '[?Winkhoop] en [?Margaret]' with a quantity of 2 and a figure 55, but IT DOES NOT RESOLVE at the size supplied and nothing is cited from it. If it is Winkhoop it would confirm the 1811 farm-name reading at SRC-522; that is exactly why it must be read rather than assumed. | WHAT IT ADDS TO THE ARGUMENT: the family is now documented in the GEORGE district in 1811 AND 1813 AND 1816, three rolls, the first of them in the year the district was created out of eastern Swellendam.
