The citation as it was given

TRANSCRIPTION. Familienaam BRUYN, no. 321. "Catharina Isabella. Geb. 12 Junie 1894. Ged. 8 September 1894. Vader: Hubertus Bruyn. Moeder: Sebella Aletta Sophia Mostert. Get: Johannes Paulus Kotze, Maria Magdalena Louw, Jacoba Margaretha Hendrikse, John Gabriel O'Reilly." IT MOVES HER BIRTH BACK A YEAR, AND THE PAGE LEAVES NO ROOM. This model held 12 June 1895, from FamilySearch, and the register gives 12 June 1894 with a BAPTISM ON 8 SEPTEMBER 1894. A child cannot be christened fifteen months before she is born. The day and the month were right and the year was one out. 5a-i: FamilySearch wins on spelling and the register wins on fact. THE IDENTIFICATION IS ON BOTH PARENTS, NOT ON THE CHILD'S NAME. Hubertus Bruyn is PER-000764 and Sebella Aletta Sophia Mostert is PER-000765, and they are the couple this model already holds as her parents. A namesake sister is the thing to fear here and there is no room for one: two daughters born 12 June in consecutive years is not a household, it is an arithmetic error. ONE PIECE OF EVIDENCE STILL DISAGREES AND IS NOT SUPPRESSED. Her Western Cape estate file of 1953 gives her age as 57 and estimates her birth year as 1896, which fits neither 1894 nor 1895. An age on a death record is what the informant said; a baptism entry is what the minister wrote three months after the birth. The register is preferred and the estate file is recorded. FOUR WITNESSES, none identified. JOHN GABRIEL O'REILLY is worth a second look purely because an Irish name at a Calvinia font in 1894 is not what the rest of this register looks like - the page around it is Farmer, Louw, Beelis, Huisaman, Steenkamp, Mostert, Kotze, van der Westhuizen. MARIA MAGDALENA LOUW and JOHANNES PAULUS KOTZE both appear at the Louw baptism, no. 318, on the facing page, so the two families stood for each other that day.

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
