The citation as it was given

FULL CITATION supplied by [FAMILY] South Africa, Dutch Reformed Church Records (Stellenbosch Archive), 1690-2011,. database with images, FamilySearch (ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-68TW-G3P : 21 May 2014), South Africa > Cape > BEAUFORT WEST > Baptisms 1819-1844 > image 198 of 302; citing Genealogiese Instituut van Suid-Afrika (GISA), Stellenbosch. THIS ONE NAMES THE CONGREGATION - Beaufort West - which neither of the Cape Town Archives citations did. Note also that the register itself BEGINS IN 1819: the volume is "Baptisms 1819-1844", the congregation was founded 16 May 1820, and this family's first Beaufort West baptism is October 1819. They are in at the very start of the book. The page is ruled in columns: Kind / Gebooren / Gedoop / Ouders / Getuigen, with a left margin carrying the birth year and an abbreviation read as "ldg:" followed by a name.

Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
