Research notes

FATHER of Cecilia Maria du Plessis (PER-001346), who lived and died on Rondabel. His name is carried by her son Johannes Gysbert TheronM (PER-001169, 1883-1884), which is the vernoemingspatroon working exactly as 5b sets out.

[FS] Added 23 Aug 2026 from a FamilySearch fan chart of Cecilia Maria du Plessis supplied by Frans. Thin record: name, dates and the line only. NO PLACE IMPORTED - the tree's place strings are systematically wrong and are not evidence. NO FamilySearch id captured, because the chart does not show them; that is a gap worth closing, since 10 makes the FS id the citation.

*** [23 Aug 2026] HE IS BURIED IN THIS DISTRICT, ON REMHOOGTE. *** GRV-1459, promoted from an eGGSA caption reading 'PLESSIS Johannes Gijsbertus, du 1826-1913' at the Remhoogte 167 farm cemetery (CEM-025), 12 km from Rondabel where his daughter lies. So the du Plessis held or lived on Koup ground themselves; his daughter did not simply marry into the district. The photograph is on the eGGSA site and has not been read beyond its caption.

*** [23 Aug 2026] HEADSTONE READ: 1826-07-29 to 1913-11-25. *** Dates sharpened from years to exact days. His stone reads 'VOED HET OUD VERTROUWEN WEDER' - feed the old trust again. *** THEY DIED THREE MONTHS APART IN 1913, BOTH ON A 25th - she on 25 August, he on 25 November. *** Both stones are in DUTCH, as is the 1863 Neethling stone beside them; the du Plessis stones of 1926 and later are in Afrikaans. The language turns in that plot between 1913 and 1926.

JACOBUS JOHANNES PETRUS DU PLESSIS (1869-1941) IS CECILIA MARIA'S BROTHER. *** A FamilySearch family view supplied by Frans gives JOHANNES GYSBERTUS DU PLESSIS (1826-1913, KC34-PVM) and JOHANNA ELIZABETH VAN ROOYEN (1831-1913, L631-CW5), married 27 NOVEMBER 1848 AT GEORGE, with NINETEEN CHILDREN - among them CECILIA MARIA 1857-1895 (GHW4-KDS, the id this project already held) and JACOBUS JOHANNES PETRUS 1869-1941 (GHLG-66D), whose years match his Reim Hoogte headstone to the day.

SO THE MAN WHO BOUGHT ROSSEL ERF ON REIM HOOGTE No. 167 IN 1908 AND IS BURIED ON IT WAS THE BROTHER OF THE WOMAN BURIED ON RONDABEL. The du Plessis were not visitors who married into this district: the parents lie on Reim Hoogte, a son bought a portion of it, and a daughter married into the Theron-Oosthuizen circle at Rondabel.

HIS PARENTS ARE CONFIRMED TOO, matching the fan chart exactly: Daniel Jacobus du PlessisM 1802-1879 (LC5W-JYL) and Susanna Johanna Catharina van der WesthuizenM 1803-1852 (9WVN-24K), married 4 AUGUST 1822 AT GEORGE, eight children.

BOTH MARRIAGES ARE AT GEORGE, which is the district the Olifants prequel ground sat in - so this family was George-district before it was Prince Albert.

THE SIBSHIP IS NOT IMPORTED. Nineteen children is exactly the bulk 6 says not to pull; the ids are recorded here so any of them can be fetched when something ties them to this ground.

Which du Plessis owned Reim Hoogte 167 in February 1901, and who was the ten-year-old Miemie whose memory carries the whole story? Neither is identified and both are one degree from the only war grave in this district.

What would settle it A transfer or a valuation roll naming the holder of Reim Hoogte 167 in 1901.
