Research notes
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-390] THE SECOND WIFE OF CAREL AARON VAN DER MERWE (PER-001639), and a marriage this model did not hold. His first wife Elsje Johanna van HeerdenM died in 1828 and he married her on 16 November 1828, the same year. FamilySearch gives them two children, Elizabeth Maria 1830-1920 and Nicolaas Francois 1833-1857; neither is imported. SHE IS ON PAPER, not only on a compiled tree: her son's 1857 death notice names his parents as "Karel A. van der Merwe" and "[Anna] Maria BOOTA", which is this woman under the clerk's spelling. That spelling is also what identifies the owner of the farm he died on. [TO VERIFY] her given names, which the notice abbreviates and the tree gives as Anna Wilhelmina.
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
