[TREE] Added 2026-07-31 by kin_sweep.py under the one-degree rule: spouse of Charles Patrick "Pat" Marincowitz. Thin record, name, dates and the family link only. NO PLACE IMPORTED: the tree's place strings are systematically wrong and are not evidence.
[1 Aug 2026, SRC-068 Zeekoegat cameo] IDENTIFIED. This thin one-degree row is HELENA MARINCOWITZ THE HISTORIAN, "a greatly revered historian and author" who "devoted her life to cultural conservation in the Prince Albert area" and wrote a wide range of books about it. After she died a plaque was erected to her in the Fransie Pienaar Museum, and a model of it was presented by Heritage South Africa at a dinner at the Swartberg Hotel. She made the Zeekoegat church's replacement pulpit cloth in 1968 as an exact replica of the 1906 original (EVT-000236), and it is her account that records the Zeekoegat hotel, its attached shop, a second Jewish-owned store, the butcher shop whose foundations are still visible, and the kalk-lined water dam. IDENTIFICATION, and it is not a name match: the cameo gives Pat Marincowitz of Sleutelfontein, brother of ds Freddie Marincowitz, married to a Helena whose MAIDEN NAME WAS STEMMET. This row is Helena Stemmet, spouse of PER-000179 Charles Patrick "Pat" Marincowitz, who the model already had as Freddie's brother. Maiden name + husband + husband's brother + district agree. The tribute post the cameo cites is dated July 2007 and her death date here is 9 July 2007. WHY THIS MATTERS BEYOND THE FAMILY: SRC-172 in this project's own source list is "Helena MarincowitzH, Klaarstroom; and Prince Albert en die Anglo-Boere Oorlog 1899-1902", recorded as cited-but-not-yet-obtained. The historian this project has been citing at second hand is in the tree, married in.
*** [3 Sep 2026] SHE IS THE AUTHORITY BEHIND THIS PROJECT'S ACCOUNT OF THE ONLY ACT OF THE ANGLO-BOER WAR FOUGHT ON THIS GROUND. *** The eGGSA album for the Remhoogte war grave and Rose Willis's Klaarstroom cameo tell the skirmish in Die Gang of 2 February 1901 in nearly the same words, and BOTH CREDIT THE SAME BOOK: Marincowitz, Helena (1999), 'Prince Albert and the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902)', Fransie Pienaar Museum, at pages 15 and 19 to 22. So the two accounts this project had been reading as independent are one, and hers. SRC-172, SRC-625, STO-0032. Her book has still not been read here.
