    On 24 July 1833 Pieter Johannes Swanepoel signed before field cornet M. de Beer that he was "volkomen te vreeden" with the way surveyor Stretch had measured Vlakfontein and that the beacons had been properly shown to him.     Two more of Stretch's August 1833 loan-farm surveys, both in C. Hatting's Zwarte Berg field cornetcy: Wilgamount for Martinus van Veuren and Klein Valie for Christian Hatting Junior. Both take in a piece of the Government ground called The Ape.
  3. August 1833 event Reim Hoogte and Venters Kloof surveyed by C. Lennox Stretch
    Two more of Stretch's August 1833 surveys in C. Hatting's Zwartberg ward, both touching Middelwater: Reim Hoogte for William Gouse, and Venters Kloof - a HALF loan farm, and the only sheet in the run that names no holder at all.

Research notes

[SRC-072 + DOC-0004] The government land surveyor who laid out this whole corner of the Karoo. Signed the 1834 diagram of Varsche Fontein and the 1833 surveys of Middelwater, Vrolykheid, Klaarstroom, Rondabel and Vlakfontein. One surveyor, two seasons, and then a single grant day in 1841.
